What application are you using to rip off an mp3 from a CD? If I know, I might be able to help. There will be a place where you can change the default location of the new mp3 files created. |

Chitralekha,
I have a WIN RAR in my cpmuter. I click on the song and then click copy. The song then goes to my documents. What am I missing? PLAYBACK SINGING STARTS AND ENDS WITH RAFISAAB. IN TERMS OF QUALITY, CONSISTENCY & VERSATILITY, RAFISAAB IS INFINITE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF ALL SINGERS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIM. |

SS: Using WIN RAR to "zip" the file is the last step before attaching the file to your message (to send as an U/L). Let me see if I can walk you through this, although I am sure you would already know most of it. I am assuming you have Windows Media Player on your computer. When you insert a music CD into the CD-ROM drive, the Windows Media Player program may automatically appear on the screen and the first song on the CD will start playing. Othewise click on the Windows Media Player icon on your desktop and the program will appear and show a list of the tracks on the CD. If you choose a song by clicking on it and then clicking PLAY, that particular track will play. What you want to do is to copy songs. So, click the STOP tab to stop the playing. On the left of the screen you will see among the vertically listed options: "COPY FROM CD" and also "COPY TO CD". You are intending to copy a song from the CD to the hard drive, so choose the "COPY FROM CD" option, which brings up a new screen, again listing all the songs but this time with a check-mark in the box preceding each song title. If you click COPY, all the songs will be copied to the hard drive. Since you want to copy only one song, uncheck all the others, and leave checked the song you want copied. At the bottom of the screen will show the "path" of that recording, something like: C:\My Documents\My Music\Unknown Artist........ Make a careful note of that path. After the song is copied, close the Windows Media Player program. Go to your desktop and right-click on the START button. The window that will pop up will have an item EXPLORE. Click on that, it will take you to the directory of all the files on the computer. Since you know the "path" of your copied song, you can find the file in which the track has been copied and stored. In the directory, under the files listed as being in the C drive, you will see My Documents. You may have to expand that by clicking on the plus sign alongside. A further list of files (the ones in My Documents) will "drop down" and there you will see My Music. If you click on that or expand it, you will see the file "Unknown Artist", and when you click on that you should see the song listed (by name or track number). The song is stored in WAV format. You would first need to convert it to MP3, and then use WIN RAR to zip it. Now it is ready to be sent as an attachment. But let us first get you going with copying from CD to the hard drive, i.e. to the My Documents on the C drive and then locating where it has been stored. If you can locate the copied song file, then you would go the next step of converting it into mp3 and then using WIN RAR to zip it. Just to address your concern, the song will be copied to a file under My Documents. That is exactly where it should go. It is only a question of finding where it is stored under My Documents, and then converting/zipping it. Best of luck --- Unni |

SS:
This is further to my last posting. On second thoughts I am nervous about sending you to the Files Directory by clicking on EXPLORE. Since that is where all the Program Files are listed, it is not an area to take chances with. Instead, just click on MY DOCUMENTS on the desktop and then search down for the file where the song is copied, then proceed as per my earlier message. --- Unni If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
