Visited Surya mandir in Jan 2006 after more than 10 years. So glad I had my camera with me. Day was simply beautiful and so is the place.

The base of the temple consists of some 7 to 8 layers. The top most is elephant layer - also known as gaja-star in Hindi - is the one seen here.

Entire Ramayan and Mahabharat stories are carved on these walls and inside of the temple.

Awesome pics Chitz, gives a good feel for the scale and the intricate work. Like Vivek(D) I wonder how come I haven't been there either? Must make it a point this visit.
