Visited Surya mandir in Jan 2006 after more than 10 years. So glad I had my camera with me. Day was simply beautiful and so is the place.

The base of the temple consists of some 7 to 8 layers. The top most is elephant layer - also known as gaja-star in Hindi - is the one seen here.

Awesome pics Chitz, gives a good feel for the scale and the intricate work. Like Vivek(D) I wonder how come I haven't been there either? Must make it a point this visit. And to think my dad was involved there for a while too!!! (We get too engrossed in our own lives sigh.gif) Have you seen the step well at .... ummmm I'll be forgetting my name next sad1.gif ?

Great! glad you liked it. Yes it's definitely worth a visit. If you get a chance, do take a guided tour. I didnt get to do it but there's lot of good info to know about the place and I heard from my aunt that the guides are very knowledgeable.

I think I might have been to Adaalaj ni vaav. Is it square or rectangular shaped vaav? Stone made? I might have been there as kid when I went on a trip of Saurashtra. smile1.gif

KRISHNA BALRAMA MANDIR

This beautiful temple was established in 1975 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Mahraja, founer-acarya of the Interational Society for Krishna Consciousness and has now become one of Vrindavan's popular temples and has one of the highest standards of Deity worship and cleanliness. Devotees from around the world can be seen here throughout the year, bringing a truly international flavour to this ancient holy city.

Deep, If you read this sign, it references times around 1025 AD so I think that's quite old.
