Non Maharashtrian singers have made a small but significant contribution to Marathi music.
Here's first one of many more to follow.This is a rare gem sung by Dilraj Kaur and composed by Shrikant Thakare.
Incidentally he's been the composer for many non Marathi singers and happens to be the father of Raj Thakare
Other artists who will join here are Manna Dey, Mohd. Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Geeta Dutt etc.

I do not know whether we should classify Vani Jairam & Shobha Gurtu into this category.Newer names which come to mind are Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan,Hamsika Iyer but obviously they will not appear here since they have sung post year 2000.

I think Mahendra Kapoor must have sung the maximum number of Marathi songs among the non-Marathi singers. His songs from Dada Kondke films, especially his duets with Usha Mangeshkar were big hits. Here I'm uploading his very melodious duets with other 2 Mangeshkar sisters.

Incidently, there could have been another song by Mukeshji in Marathi - 'Ya phulanchya gandhakoshi' was earlier composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar snd was intended for Mukeshji, but he shied away and refused to sing even after preparing for recording. He said that Hridaynathji himself is more fit to sing the difficult song.
This story was revealed by Hridaynathji a few months ago on TV Zee Marathi in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa -Aajcha Aawaj'' program while commenting on Mukeshji.

It was C Ramchandra who introduced Mahendra Kapoor First as a playback singer in Hindi film Navrang (1959).
