Here is one more beautiful song...the song was picturised on two CMs..NTR and Jayalalita..Actually, the song is a take off from a famous duet of Rafi Sahab...any guesses ??
I am almost sure that a tamil version exists...deferred to Suresh, SB...

Sorry to disappoint.
Despite all the brainstorming, I am not able to answer the question.
I heard the song - very soothing; felt in my bones that there exists a Tamil cousin, but could not put my finger on that.
The nearest I got to was - THANGAMALAI RAHASIYAM (1957). Incidentally, it also has a famous moon song - 'AMUDHAI POZHIYUM NILVAE' - sung so beautifully by P Suseela.
However, there is a Tamil film called ADIMAI PENN (meaning Slave Girl, starring MGR & Jayalalitha) 1969, the same year of GR's vintage. I have read somewhere that it is the first Tamil film in which SP Bala sang a song in Tamil - a duet with P Suseela.
That song also alludes to the moon - Aayiram Nilave vaa'
Thought that this can be an interesting tid-bit in this thread, which, I think, is getting all the right attention, with Swarapriya graciously adding to the contributions.
A pointer to a great thread in the days to come.
Though I cannot contribute due to language barriers (but certainly not musical barrier, for good music transcends languages; incidentally, I am presently listening to some Lebanese music). I will certainly be watching from the sidelines and adding the odd two-pence, once in a while.
Best wishes,
Suresh
