My nephew...a games addict did something wonderful to my system..i.e, my computer. Suddenly it started spewing a fantastic language which is not known to any humanbeing.. i am posting a pic ..of how it looks. Needless to say, all the menus come in that lingo only...sad1.gif I tried system restore, but it is not working...Checked up, and saw that restore option is ON.
Hence i got no other alternative except to turn to the techie guys and gals out here...Please Help me !!!!

He can try system restore that is if he can find that in the control panel and once again if he can locate control panel! blink.gif

He has to change the regional language settings in the control panel!!

Try regional settings.. I have mailed a picture of how the dialog box will look, considering you won't be able to read anything. laugh.gif

Yes, that should work. System restore will mean all the data gone, Boom.
if you have backed up data, then yes system restore will clean all unwanted stuff

System restore does not delete data bhai. I have done so many times and all my files are safe. wub.gif The system files or the settings get back to the time when the system was back-ed up. Only I have noticed the folders you have deleted come back though empty. blink.gif
Marcilo
you mean restore from registory? These incremental backups / restores work with servers. In case of PCs, this is simply done by using restore disc that brings PC to factory settings

You mean Ubuntu GNU/Linux.
Many of my friends use it and its easy to use. It resembles Windows in many ways. Sometimes even crashes like it. tongue1.gif
Most softwares are available online through package manager and installation CDs are available by order for free from their site www.ubuntu.org

Come on. how is the game addicted nephew going to play games on Ubuntu.
Besides simplefable would have to switch browsers that would be traumatic enough.
It looks like browser is IE6.

Why don't you have you nephew fix the either the system font setting or
regional setting in Control Panel. but if this some kind of virus then you will
have to reinstall. Doesn't your nephew know what he did.
I think windows does have a mechanism where you can boot up in last good
snapshot or something. may be safe boot would work as well.

Thankyou R&D..for your kind suggestions. smile.gif

i tried everything..last good configuration start..restore to another date..etc.But surprisingly none worked...one of those vagaries of OS..i think. I use Firefox...somehow never liked IE. smile.gif

may be the font file is corrupt. get the font directory from some else with same os.
backup and replace the font directory.

you can also do checksum on the font files and compare with the good filesystem.

Did you try another font for the system font to see if that helps like the Ariel.

R&D.. again, thanks for the suggestions. smile.gif
Actually i reinstalled the OS..which solved the problem, albeit in a crude way. It is like giving a steroids for simple sprain.
Never had this kind of problem before... smile.gif

first Bill steals from all the world by selling crappy software
then convinces the world that he is great philanthropist just to keep all that gain from government.
If that is not modern Guru then no one is. not even Deepak Chopra can do any better
even though he tries real hard.

but don't worry Windows 7 will save your soul once and for all.

SF,

What errors? I thought, some fonts were unreadable and nothing else.
I was thinking on the same lines as R&D; ie, a few fonts got corrupt. But, I haven't used windows for so long; didn't feel like posting.

If everything is solved, a short summary of the initial problem and the final fix would benefit future readers.

Just happened to browse by this section of the forum.

R&D is correct -- the below (font file method) is what should have likely fixed the problem.

Sometimes, say if you visit a website with say Devnagri or Bengali or Marathi or whatever font that your computer might not recognize...get the respective font file and it works. Sometimes, with PDF documents even (say with complex equations if it like an engineering e-book or something) -- you will not have all characters displayed properly -- same thing -- get font file (Adobe gives you error message of what font file is missing) and it works.

Lastly, I think ALL font files are either in Windows folder or System32 folder -- can't remember.
