Full Version: Great Songs But Rarely Discussed On Hf
Hamara Forums > Legends > Geeta Dutt
parag_sankla
There is a very famous ghazal sung by Jaghjit Singh sahab:

Duniya jise kehate hain
jaadu ka khilaunaa hain
Mil jaaye toh mitti hain
kho jaaye toh sonaa hain

Meaning we lose the importance of whatever we get but keep running after the things which we do not have.

Case in point is many beautiful melodious songs of Geeta ji (not necessarily the popular ones)! Since they are easily available on CD compilations, we simply tend to forget discussing about them and enjoying their beauty.

This thread will be dedicated to such songs! And as with many of my threads, this thread will not discuss songs of Geeta ji from the Guru Dutt films (like CID, Aar Paar, Mr and Mrs 55 etc.)

good idea Parag. Looking forward to the thread.

The very first case is for the songs of the film Jogan (1950). Geeta ji has sung as many as 12 songs for this film, where the music was composed by the veteran Bulo C Rani.

Here is one thread where these songs were re-uploaded.

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...c=52461&hl=

Music Director Bulo C Rani composed 15 songs for Nargis, Dilip Kumar starrer Jogan (1950). Out of the 15 songs in total, 12 songs were sung by Geeta ji, 2 by Shamshad Beghum ji and 1 by Talat sahab.

Chanda khele aankh michauli - Geeta Dutt
Daaro re rang daaro re rasiya - Geeta Dutt
Dagmag dagmag dole naiya - Geeta Dutt
Dwaar khule man mandir ke - Geeta Dutt
Ghoonghat ke pat khol re tohe piya milenge - Geeta Dutt
Hey ri main to prem deewaani - Geeta Dutt
Jogi mat jaa mat jaa paaon padoon main tere - Geeta Dutt
Main to girdhar ke ghar jaaun - Geeta Dutt
Pyaare darshan dijo aaj - Geeta Dutt
Tik tik tik gend kheloon gend kheloon - Geeta Dutt
Uthat chale avdhoot - Geeta Dutt , Hamida Bano, Male voice
Zara thaam jaa tu ae saavan - Geeta Dutt

I am not so sure about the song "Uthat chale avdhoot". To me, it sounds like some other singer, not Geeta ji.

Thanks Mahesh for clarification on the singers for the song "Uthat chale avadhoot".

Continuing on the songs of Jogan:

I was pleasantly surprised to see that more than 10 pages were devoted to the film Jogan and its songs in the book "Geeta Dutt : The Skylark". Each and every song of the film is a divine melody and sung by a less than 20 year old young girl. Producer Chandulal Shah, composer Bulo C Rani and the director Kidar Sharma were all the stalwarts of their respective fields. And here was this young girl Geeta Roy, singing songs with complex emotions like "Jogi mat jaa, mat jaa".

Thanks for your kind words. I had been thinking about this concept for quite some time, but was not getting the time to start it. Finally it happened yesterday!

As I am chatting with a great music fan and a very jovial person, we just now agreed on a fact that most of the Geeta ji fans are very sober when it comes to praising her.

Don't be so disheartened. Enough discussion and research has been
done on 4-5 singers of bollywood. Those fans are "ajkal bilkul faltoo"
Let them jump here and give a meaningful thought tongue1.gif

I will continue more discussion on the songs of Jogan, but here is another striking example. The film stars Raj Kapoor and Nargis, the composer is legendary Khemchand Prakash ji and the lyrics are by Shakeel Badayuni sahab.

Geeta ji gets to sing as many as 5 solos and 1 duet for this film. All the songs are simply superb..the film is "Jaan Pehechaan".

I thought the latter was a non-film version. Was it recorded more than once?
I have it somewhere and it has a totally different charm to it.
parag_sankla
Yes one should not attempt to compare 2 legendary singers.

parag_sankla
Another lovely song from the team of Kidar Sharma, B Vasudev, Rajkumari and Geeta Roy.

Mere dil ki dhadaknon mein sakhi kaun aa samayaa

Lovely song!
parag_sankla
What a lovely song rendered by Geeta ji for a low budget film "Shrimati 420" for rhythm king O P Nayyar, with Rafi sahab just saying a few words.

Here are some nice words from a music lover about this song:

There again, we hear that distinctive GD voice of celebration, filled with nasha and evoking a club , cabaret, or garden party filled with slightly tipsy merrymakers
