Exon, thanks for the mesmerizing song, though I didn't followed a word but the composition and rendition just took me to another world! May I request a line to line translation of the song and if possible, a good audio copy of the song too! smile.gif

And also request more such beautiful songs (with translation smile.gif )!

Erum,

Thanks for the appreciation. I don't have an audio file for it. I will have to extract audio from this video.
I have added the lyrics and a rough translation. The song is about morning sun rise and nature. It is a very short and simple poem. But I liked the composition and picturization. My Kannada is very rusty. Perhaps, Lakshmi, Yadavagiri or other Kannadiga members can help in the translation.

Thanks for reminding the Telugu version. I had seen this song's Telugu version on video. Frame by frame they had followed the Kannada version.

Film: Thabbaliyu Neenaade Magane (1976?)
Music: Bhaskar Chandavarkar
Singers: P. B. Shrinivas, B. K. Sumitra, Vidhyarani, chorus

This is a well known folk song. Most of us who studied kannada in elementary school know this poem. It was used as the title song for the movie made by Girish Karnad and B V Karanth. The movie, Thabbaliyu Neenaade Magane (son, you have become an orphan) is based on a story by well known Kannada writer S. L. Bairappa.

The movie was remade (or dubbed) in Hindi as Godhuli. Erum Hashmi has uploaded the Hindi version of this song. The hindi song lyrics is a fairly close adaptation of the Kannada poem.

HT,

I might have heard this song first time in the 70s. It is one of the best lori song; in kannada it is called 'jogula'; written by a well known poet. I don't know if it was included in any movie.

No Exon bhai. It was bit different but was again sung by Vani Jayaram (music composed by Violin maestro Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan).

Here's the info I got on this song.

Quoting what the writer wrote -

How wonderful "how beautiful" Melnaatu marumagal
Singers:VJ&SPB - Music:Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan

I am not really sure about the lyrics- Its been ages since I've heard it. I remember another line "Heaven seems to be very near". I vaguely remember Kamal dancing with his ex-wife Vani Ganapathi (guest appearance) for this song.

Mel Naattu Marumagal was a big hit for Kunnakkudi and Vani. Henceforth Kunnakkudi would ensure that VJ would have at least one song in all his ventures.

(From above the sequence too seems different! blink.gif )

Are there more fully english songs in kannada films?

Erum,

I don't know. Perhaps, other kannada members might know.
I listen to lot of songs. But, when it comes to movies, I have seen so few. Some how, it is hard for me to sit for three hours.

HT,

Thanks a lot for finding this song by Raj Kumar. You seem to have good knowledge of Kannada.
Now, I recollect that there were two James Bond type of movies with Raj Kumar.

I know about Dwarakesh a little bit more, because he used Kishore for a song in one of his movie. Kulla agent 000. (apparently he is a Kishore fan).
