Just as an aside, I had lot of problem converting bitrates for these many files.
manually converting each one is quite difficult.
So I have made a shell script in linux for this. Run it in any directory which has lots of
mp3 files which you want to convert to 160 kbps and you want zip files also to be made
for you to upload to hamara forums.
The code for this script is quite simple (i have used the lame mp3 encoder).
This i am putting hopefully others can also use it. hope it helps somebody else facing the same problem.

# echo $file
lame -b 160 $file $1160_$file
zip $1160_$file.zip $1160_$file
# rm $file
done
exit 0
Just copy this code into a file say convert.sh into the directory with mp3 files with lower bitrates.
Then give it execute permission with chmod +x convert.sh
Then just run it with the command ./convert.sh
It will automatically convert all to 160 kbps with the new 160 kbps files with name 160_oldname.mp3
and also make zip files for you to upload! (Its that simple).
(You can uncomment the # before rm $file if you want to delete them although i don't do that incase
i have problem in reencoding with some files!)

I believe that only experts can answer this question. Both Dil Ki Rani and Do Bhai are from 1947, but not sure which films songs were recorded and released first.

MP3 is basically a lossy encoding scheme. Since my old files were 16 I can give a maximum of 160.
The reason I had to recode the bitrate is that hamaraforums doesn't permit songs below a certain bitrate. So i needed to convert them to higher bitrate. Doing this conversion for many files is monotonous so I made this quick hack. It may help others. A small correction, the song "Aye dil hain mushkil jeena yahan..yeh hain bumbai meri jaan" is from CID, and the music is composed by O P Nayyar. Incidentally, this is the only song of Geeta ji which got Filmfare award.

Thanks for the correction parag. Also a great thanks to you and mahesh for making these nice songs available. Keep up the good work.
I think the reason for her not winning many filmfare awards is that by the time they were instituted she was doing lesser songs and during that time all music directors who considered their work as art were getting the best out of all singers (leading to more competition between singers and MDs.)

HB, this is one of the best songs of Geeta ji, based on a Gujarathi song sung by herself in late forties. The composer of the original song is Avinash Vyas.
