Vasudevji,
Many thanks for this beautiful song. I sincerely hope that you also have the song on the other side of this rare 78rpm record. That song is "nazaaron mein tum hi tum". What is so curious about this song is that on the record it says that its "music by Manna Dey". If I remember it right, its also mentioned that the music of "yaad phir bhi aayi" is also by Manna Dey.
However, in the same year (1953) two bengali songs were released arranged by none other than Salil Chowdhury and one of them is clearly the bengali version of "nazaaron mein tum" and it was sung by Tarun Banerjee. On that record it clearly says that this song is based on an English Hymn and its not too difficult to find that original English hymn. The vocal arrangement and the harmony was done by Salilda.
The song "yaad phir bhi aayi" is also based on an old tango from the late '40s.
Even more curious is that according to Manna Dey website the music for both these songs is supposed to be composed by someone called "Noyon Mazumdar" !
I am enclosing "nazaaron mein ho tum" and also that bengali version "tumi kothaay" here for everybody to ponder !
Apologies to all Manna Dey admirers for uploading a non-Manna Dey song.
Rishi
