Hamida Banu is alive and resides in Lahore.
She had shifted to Bombay during her childhood and came back
to Lahore in 1957. Her first song was recorded in 1943 for
Nagma e Sahraa, with C Ramchandra , Kisi ko kisi yaad aaii.
A few of her famous songs:

Many many thanks for N.L.Puri songs. These are some of the most beautiful non film songs ever. Its a pity that N.L.Puri was never enamoured of mainframe Hindi cinema and we have been deprived of many more such gems if he would have consented to sing more songs in movies, although I believe there is one song in 1953 movie Chacha Choudhry with music by Madan Mohan where he has lent his vocals.

The song "Punar Janam Mein Miloongi Baalam, Akhiyan Neer Na Aaye" in a strange way reminds me of Soja Rajkumari of Saigal. We all know that all the print of Zindagi were destroyed in that great fire at New Theatres Studios and so we shall never be able to see how this song was picturised but in one programme on Saigal, I once heard Dilip Kumar describing the scene from Zindagi when this song is picturised. Apparantly Saigal sings this song near the dead body of Jamuna, heroine of Zindagi, consoling himself with this immortal melody. If "Punar Janam mein miloongi Baalam" was in a movie, the sequence might have been similar.
