A search on the net has shown that Khayyam saab composed music under the name of 'Sharma ji' in his first four films. In 1948 for a movie named Heer Ranjha he also sang 3 duets with Geeta Dutt.

I am not sure if this has been discussed on HF. (At least my search did not show any thing!)

Does any one have any of these songs ?

Thanks in advance and best regards
Parag

geetaji sang two duets with khayyam sahab in heer ranjha[1948]-

1]-dil yoon yoon karta hai,
2]-teri jaat hai akbari sarbari,

both of these songs were uploaded by me on hf more than a year back although i had erroneously uploaded them as geeta-g m durrani duets.

she sang a duet with him for rasili[46] composed by hanuman prasad.

Hi Mahesh ji, nice to see your reply.

You know how IT companies work! My 6 month project in London was over so I came back to India just a day before diwali. My son (3 yr old) just loves crackers, so we made it a point to reach India before diwali.

So for now, I will be operating from the Hyd office till further notice...

Sorry for making a long story about myself.

It was glad to know that my information was correct. I believe that Qafas ki kaid mein (with G M Durrani) is also from the same movie. This was uploaded on HF after I joined, so I have got it.

It will be great if you could u/l those 2 duets at your convenience.

Thanks and best regards
Parag

P.S. I hope you would have seen my thread about songs I got from hamaracd.com
Are there any songs out of those list which are not in your collection ?

Just want to correct the record, Chishti (correct name G A Chishti not GM Chishti) was not the MD of Kurmai (1941) but Khurshid Anwar.
Khaiyyam & Roshan were the assistants of Khurshid Anwar in pre partition India.

yes mahesh bhai,
its the same tune.i had uploaded the song last year.i will try to ul it again today.

Khaiyyam & Roshan were the assistants of Khurshid Anwar in pre partition India.

inaam bhai,
while roshan was assistant md to khurshid anvar, khayyam had worked as a assistant to g a chisti and husnlal bhagatram.his biography doesn't mention his working with khurshid anvar.for heer ranjha,he jointly composed 6 songs with rehman verma.rehman verma was also an assistant to g a chisti, maybe he had worked with khurshid anver also.

here are excerpts about khayyam sahab's musical training from vishwas nerurkar's book on him-

''khayyam wanted to become a singer-actor like k l saigal.to fulfill his dream,he went to delhi and learnt classical music from pt. husnlal, bhagatram and pt. amarnath.with patience and dedication he mastered classical singing and learned the art of writing music notations.subsequently he went to lahore and worked as an assistant to g a chisti, from whom he is said to have learnt the crucial nuances of composing music for films.he then joined husnlal bhagatram who had shifted to mumbai and became very famous as a music director duo.''

Here is some interesting info about Heer Ranjha. This is from an
interview with Pakistani MD Rehman Verma as published in the book
Jahan-e-Fan by Zahur Chaudhary. (Translated by Surjit Singh)

Verma : ....

Those days, famous producer, writer, director Wali Sahib (with his wife
Mumtaz Shanti) came to Calcutta. He wanted to get Baba Chishti as MD for
his under-production film Heer Ranjha. This film was being shot in
Bombay and Aziz Khan (who was later famous as Aziz Hindi) was giving its
music. But he removed himself from the film because of some disagreement
with Wali sahib. So he was looking for another MD. By this time Baba
Chishti had returned to Lahore. Then Wali Sahib persuaded me and
Khaiyyam to come to Bombay and finish the rest of the work. So, in 1946,
both of us went to Bombay and completed the movie. Wali Sahib changed
both of our names, and made us, respectively, Vermaji, Sharmaji. I
remember that we had recorded a Panjabi song for this film, sung by
Geeta Roy, ud pud janiyan ghio khand khaniayan te chunni lai de lal rang
di. Also, we recorded kahe ko biyahi bades with Lata Mangeshkar.

Zahur Chaudhary:

Sorry for the interruption, but it is said that this song was created by
Aziz Hindi for Lata.

Verma:

No, Sir. This tune belongs to me and Khaiyyam. But possibly the
Gramophone Records say Aziz Hindi, although I am not sure. In any case,
at that time, I had told Wali Sahib to mention Aziz Hindi's name for all
the songs, because after all he is also an artist and artists have
strong feelings. In any case, our first song ud pud was written by Wali
Sahib's brother Nazim Panipati. By this time Pakistan was in existence.
Wali Sahib ordered us to go to Lahore so that the film can be released.
I remember that in those days Agha G. A. Gul was the distributor of this
film for the Lahore Circuit. The film was released and did OK business.
After this, Khaiyyam Sahib returned to Bombay.

According to an article about Khurshid Anwer, written by a famous Pakistani film music critic, Roshan and Khayyam were assisting Khurshid Anwer when he was the incharge of classical music section at All India Radio Delhi.
