If we include Rehman's numbers, we'll be dealing with remakes and re-used tunes only. And to his credit, most tunes are popular in both Hindi and Tamil versions. Do we list his songs too ?

Sri-ji could give us invaluable info about common tunes used in 50's to 70's, while you could list out almost all songs by Veda

Following up to my own post, the strange thing is that the Hindi version
of the song "Kaahe naina laDe" is from "JHamela", music by C Ramachandra.
But the Tamil version is credited to the combination of Hemant Kumar and
A Ramarao. Now who really created the original tune???


Also, somebody please point me to the S Janaki version of "Pal bhar me yeh
kya ho gaya".

music is credited variously to Adi Narayana Rao* , some other Raos and C Ramchandra himself...i think the main composer for the film (1955 - Produced by Narayanan & Co.) appears to have been Adi Narayana Rao..but CR may have been credited for the contribution of this tune (orig film Jhamela 1963...produced by Bhagwan). But, highly unlikely to be Hemant Kumar's music, in any case.......where did you get this info SB ? Unless, there's another song in the film which was contributed by HK !!

Pancham ka sawal hai baba. Thanks Nimz. Any way of explaining the main thrust of the song, the trasition from passionate solo to "romantic" duet is always intriguing. In the Bangla versions it is very frequent and more often than not I prefer the hindi versions...

Not songs like "Varavu ettana selavu paththana" from "BAMA VIJAYAM" which had a Hindi version with a different tune as "Amdani athanni kharcha rupaiyya".

"Woh kaun thhi" was made in Tamil into a film called "Yaar nee" starring
Jayalalitha and Jaishankar (who can match Manoj Kumar's vacant expressions
to the last lack of twitch). The music was by "consistently inspired" Veda.
P Susheela does an excellent job in most of the songs. She is particularly
fantastic in "Ponmeni thazhuvaamal" which is the equivalent of "Lag ja gale".

I have the Tamil version of all the songs except the one Nimmi mentioned above.
I have a not too great video recording of this one. Nimmi, the song lyrics are
"Yen vedhanayil un kaNNiranDum ennoDu azhavadheN kaNNa". I can upload
the video version if you like.

I think all the songs of Woh Kaun Ti were found in Yaar Nee. (Naina Barse-Naane Varuven).

The song Shouk nazar ki bijliyan was slightly modified to Paarvai Onre Podume(not sure about the film..)
