Pradeep Jee-

Thanks for kind words & an excellent analysis. To us..........the entire music era has given so much to all of us from time to time........each era stand on its own independently. Its our perception-test and comparison bring us to differences. The depth in the music differs from time to time as the test of music lovers. The crux of the matter is to refrain from any comparisions and evaluate independetly.

Recently there was an interesting exchange between myself and a very prominent contributor to this forum. The gentleman while commenting on a beautiful lori from Do Bigha Zamin, Aa Ja Ri Aa Nindiya Tu Aa, commented that this was the second best lori in Hindi movies after "Nanhi Kali Sone Chali" from Sujata, another outstanding lori, which he felt was the best. I felt compelled to ask how he would rank loris such as So Ja Rajkumari (Zindagi), Dheere Dheere Aa Re Baadal (Kismet), Dheere Se Aa Ja Ri Akhiyan Mein (Albela) and Main Gaoon Tu Chup Ho Ja (Do Aankhen Barah Haath). The response was that kids would find the voice of Saigal not very soothing and that Rafi's Main Gaaoon Tum So Jaao from Brahmachari was in fact better. The matter rested there. But its quite likely that for a kid born in the Saigal era (to which I do not belong) would have found So Ja Rajkumari far more soothing than Main Gaoon Tum So Jaao (I was a teenager when this song was released). And for a child born in 1980s and 1990s, a lori created during his / her childhood would probably sound far more soothing than all the above mentioned loris. This is when the futility of such comparisons becomes obvious.

Pradeep

I have seen kids of three generations enjoying the one by Geetaji.
Top class lori. She was unmatched in expressing feelings.

that's me

sir I if I had a choice I would ban BHP & RDB forever-kya kehte hain -bhasm kar deta

but one has to live in the current world and accept changes

mine is a true experience with my daughter-GD wins hands down

Saigal saab I would say in todays world is an acquired taste-It grows with time

but for a lorie a female voice will always win the category(soothing and calming-just what u need to go to sleep)

Mohammed bhai, what a treasure of songs you have uploaded !

It will take me hours to download these songs at home (thanks to SS (slow speed) DSL) , but the effort would be worth it !

In my opinion, any song of Lataji from 1947 to 1960 is a gem !

I believe that the song "Paa laagu kar jori re - Aap Ki Seva Mein " is Lataji's first recorded Hindi song.

Guys, please confirm/correct me.

Not technically quite correct ... "Paa laagu kar jori re" was Lata's first solo playback number. Prior thereto, she had recorded the "Mata ki charnon mein" number in Badi Maa (1945) under the music direction of K.Dutta [in which she playbacked for herself as well as for Asha Bhosle!] and also figured as a choral voice in C.Ramchandra's "Jawani ki rel chali jaay re" from Shehnai (1947). By the way, I was wondering if anyone could u/l these numbers?

I'm also looking for Asha Bhosle's first playback number - from 'Chunaria' (1948), viz. Saawan aaya saawan aaya saawan aaya re" in which she sang along with Geeta Dutt and Zohrabai.

I would be very grateful if anyone could upload these three numbers, viz.
(1) Mata ki charanon mein - Badi Maa (1945)
(2) Jawani ki rel chali jaay re - Shehnai (1947)
(3) Saawan aaya saawan aaya saawan aaya re - Chunaria (1948)

Just a quick question ..

Is the melodious song "Dil hi toh hain tadap gaya dard se bhar na aayen kyon" from Aadhi Raat ?

There is one more lovely melody of Lataji "Jalake dil khak hua aankh se roya na gaya " MD is Shailesh , I think the movie is Savera.

These are very lovely sad songs of Lata ji.

Can any one confirm/correct the information?

Thanks a lots to all the contributors !

For the benefit of music lovers, I am uploading a rare melody from "Naadaan" - "saarii duniyaa ko piichhe chhoDakar", easily one of Lata's most enchanting songs, which is not part of the list.

The composer for this is Chic Chocolate who was one of C.Ramchandra's assistants. The song is so classy that most music lovers credit this song to the master himself rather than his assistant. CR himself has denied any hand in the creation of this song, except that he assisted in the orchestration of the song. The chorus and the orchestra add to the beauty of this dreamy melody.

Song : saarii duniyaa ko piichhe chhoDakar
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar with chorus
Film : Naadaan (1951)
Duration : 3:13
Bit rate : 80

These are the files readily available on the hard disk. For other songs I need time to do a bit of archaeological work in my collection.
