(Dharmendra) Mard Ki Zabaan (1987)
Even though Dharmendra had the top billing in this film, he had less than 10 minutes of total screen time. He appears in the beginning for a few minutes and then again in the end. Another one of those senseless and point less movies with revenge theme that were made during these years. It seems like they kept on making them whether they were successful or not. As usually is the case in these type of movies, the only redeeming feature was its music. Not that LP's score set on any fire but at least it was not as disappointing as the movie. This film must have been in production for a very long time. Otherwise it is difficult to explain that this movie released in 1987 had that great actor from Bengal, Uttam Kumar in a brief role. Kumarji passed away on July 24, 1980. It also has a great song by Rafi Saab, “Apne Dil Mein Josh Hai”. Rafi Saab passed away only a week after Uttam Kumar passed away, on July 31, 1980. It also boasts a beautiful song of Hemantda, a duet with Anuradha Paudwal, “Janani Jagat Ki”. This is in two parts. Hemantda, who passed away on September 26, 1989, wasn’t much active in his last few years of life. The film also shows two shades. Nearly two-thirds of the film is fine to watch. This must have been done in early 80’s. But the last one-third of the movie degenerates into a routine crime drama, so popular during mid-80’s through 90’s, dashing all the hopes of watching a good film. This is one of the finer efforts by LP and Bakshi Saab. Apart from the songs mentioned above, there is a beautiful solo by Asha, “Mor Papiha”, and another one by Lata, “Sar Pe Mukut”.
