(Kishore) Daal Mein Kaala (1964)

Character actor Bipin Gupta produced the film. Satyen Bose, who made films like “Jagriti (1954”), “Chalti ka Naam Gaadi (1958)”, “Dosti (1964)” and “Raat Aur Din (1967)” among others, wrote the screenplay and directed the film. My expectations of the film were high as I was hoping to see a good movie. But alas. It was a total disappointment. Except for its music, there is nothing in this film to write home about.

C. Ramchandraji was the music director of the film. He did a commendable job with a couple of nice tracks. My favorite of the album is Kishoreda’s number “Chaand Chupchaap Hai”.

All songs from this album were ripped from a DVD. The quality of most of the songs is fairly good. One or two songs have a bit of noise in them. This is especially pronounced in the song “In Aankhon Ko”. The audio of this song is also uneven as it progresses. The other song is “Duniya Ke Bazaar Mein”. This song is mostly vocal. This helps the noise to be not audible as much. But when vocals are absent, you can hear a bit of it. My cleaning efforts of these songs didn’t yield any good results.

Here are some observations about the songs. In a couple of them Kishoreda impersonates a female voice. One of the songs is “Do Aankhen Janaani”. At the very beginning of this song, he sings with a female voice. The second song is “Duniya ki Bazaar Mein”. In this song Ramchandraji had Kishore song a portion of “Gore Gore” from his own composition from the film “Albela (1951)” in a female voice.

It is interesting note that in the song “Mohabbat Karna Hai” Chitalkar sings for Kishoreda. This comes close to the end of the song.

Here are the songs from this album…

(Dev) Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961)

Nasir Hussain who was with Filmistan Studios for a long time was a successful writer of many hit films for them. He turned into a director with “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” in 1957. The movie was made by Filmistan and became a huge box-office hit that established Shammi Kapoor as a bonafied star. When S. Mukherjee left Filmistan to form his own company, Filmalaya, he had Nasir Hussain direct their first movie. This was “Dil Deke Dekho” in 1959. This movie became blockbuster and heralded a new heroine, Asha Parekh and a new music director, Usha Khanna. After these two successes, Nasir Hussain decided to form his own company and established his production house, Nasir Hussain Films. His first movie was released in 1961, “Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai”. This was also a runaway hit. Interestingly, besides directing, Hussain Saab wrote stories of all these thee movies. Except for small variations, they all have similar themes.

This was the only movie Dev was collaborated with Hussainji. Dev was offered to star in “Teesri Manzil” but Dev declined as he was still fresh from the success of his “Guide” and wanted some time off. Shankar & Jaikishan gave music to only this film he directed.

I am uploading songs from this film in three back-to-back posts. The first two posts contain all the songs and a couple of music clips from the film. The first post songs are all from an original soundtrack album. Songs in the second post are from a DVD. The third post contains several extended version songs from the film. These are all from a DVD as well. All these extended versions have either more music in the beginning or in the end or sometimes both.

Now for the songs in the first post…

(Kishore) Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein (1964)

If there is any doubt about the real genius of Kishore Kumar, then show that someone this film “Door Gagan ki Chhaon Mein”. Besides acting and singing in the film, he also wrote the story, screenplay, couple of songs, composed music, produced, and directed it. That is eight faces of this eccentric comic but serious minded genius. An amazing accomplishment anyway one looks at it.

I am uploading songs from this album including some specials in four back-to-back posts. The first post contains all the songs from an original soundtrack album. The second post contains rest of the songs from the film that were not on the CD and some extended versions and also a couple of specials. The third post contains some musical clips from the film ripped from a DVD. The fourth and final post contains several instrumentals.

This movie, the first directorial triumph of Kishoreda, inspired remakes in several Southern Indian languages. The Telugu hit film “Ramu” released in 1968 was one such film. I will upload songs from this film after I am done with the Hindi version.

Now for the songs in the first post…

(Dev) Maya (1961)

There are nine beautiful songs in this film that cast a spell on you. Each one of them is that good. The songs from this are definitely as charming as Dev’s debonair mannerisms.

The film has that perennial pleaser, the duet by Lata and Rafi Saab, "Tasveer Teri Dil Mein". One of my favorite songs of Lata, "Jaa Re" is from this film. There are three solos by Rafi Saab, two of which are Rafi Saab's distinctively great songs. There are also a couple of duets of Lata and Dwijen Mukherjee (one of them is almost a solo) that are lovely to listen to. Dwijen has an impeccable resemblance to Hemantda's voice. For a minute I thought I was actually listening to Hemantda. I was that easily fooled. I don't know too much about this singer. May be some of our members can shed some light on him.

I will upload these melodious songs in back-to-back three posts. The first post and parts of the second post contain all songs from the film, from an original soundtrack album. The second post also contains several music clips. The third post contains several instrumentals.

Let Salilda do his wizardry starting with these songs in the first post...
