(Dev) Bombai Ka Babu (1960)
Here is another beautiful album from the great Burmanda. Every song, even after 52 years, sound so fresh and beautiful just as its lovely leading lady Suchitra Sen. She was gorgeous in several scenes. The movie, directed by Raj Khosla, had a bold theme. A small time crook comes to hide in a small village after thinking he committed a big time crime. Impersonating as a missing long lost son of an older simple folks, he is ready to accept them as his parents but not their daughter as his sister. This hint of incest in the storyline was a big downer for the movie that otherwise was well made. I am uploading songs, for which RD was the assistant music director to his father, in three back-to-back posts. The first post contains all the songs from the film from an original soundtrack album. Incidentally, the tune for the song "Dekhne Mein Bhola Hai" was based on the hit Telugu song "Eruvaaka Saagaaro" from the film "Rojulu Maaraayi". That film was made in 1955 and introduced Waheeda Rehman as a dancer singing that song. The second post contains several music clips from a DVD. The third post contains some specials from various CDs. Here are the songs in the first post... Attached image(s) |

(Dev) Ek Ke Baad Ek (1960)
This movie was based on the family planning theme. It won the Maharashtra State Government Award for promoting it. In spite of the seriousness of the theme and a good musical score by ever so dependable Burmanda, movie was not a success. Geetaji had a couple of melodious duets in this movie. Her duet with Rafi Saab, a real beauty, reminds me of the great song from "Pyaasa (1957)", "Hum Aap Ki Aankhon Mein" which was penned by Sahir Saab. I am uploading all of the songs from this album in two back-to-back posts. The first post has all the songs from the film. The second post contains some extended versions. Here is the first set... (Dilip) Bairaag (1976)
Dilipji was going through a lean period with a string of flops that he never experienced in his professional career before. Trying to capture the old magic, he tried in this movie playing a triple role. In the end however, the result was predictably the same. The movie was only an average success, that too optimistically speaking, and was easily forgotten. However, it has a couple of good songs. My favorite one is the duet by Asha and Rafi Saab, "Saare Shehar Mein". Here is this and other songs from an original soundtrack album of this film ... Attached image(s) |

(Dev) Kala Bazar (1960)
Early in his career and even until late 60's, Dev made some really good movies. They were mostly entertaining, fun to watch, and full of melodious and unforgettable songs. This film happens to be one of those. It was produced by Dev himself. It also starred his other two brothers, Chetan and Vijay. Then there is beautiful Waheeda. Besides acting in the film, Vijay also wrote its story, scripted its screenplay, penned its dialogues, and directed it as well. This was quite a responsibility on young Anand's shoulders. But he came through all of it beautifully. The movie with black-market ticket sales as background had a scene in it where many dignitaries appeared. The occasion was the premiere of Mehboob Khan's masterpiece "Mother India" at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai. A list of these film personalities who were attending the premiere can be seen in the table below. This movie boasted some of the best work of Burmanda. With Shailendra penning beautiful lyrics Burmanda composed several melodious songs. Geetaji had two beautiful duets. But star of the show was Rafi Saab. He had three solos and a duet with Geetaji. I sometimes wonder whether Rafi Saab was this sweet ever. Then again, Rafi Saab did many such sweet songs throughout his career. But especially the two songs "O Ho Ho Khoya Khoya Chaand" and "Apni Toh Har Aah" are just out of this world. My own favorite of the album is the unbelievably honeyed lovely, "Apni Toh". You can hear this song over and over again and never get tired of it. The listening experience transcends the soul into a quiet soothing bliss. Love ya Burmanda... I am uploading all songs from this film from an original soundtrack in the first post. The second post has several specials. Here are these beautiful songs... Songs from "Kala Bazar (1960)" Continued...
I am including several specials in this post. The song "Apni Toh" has real brief dialogue of less than 10 seconds. Otherwise it is pretty much the same as in the first post. I am also including a verison song of "O Ho Ho Khoya Khoya Chaand" by Sonu Nigam. Then I am uploading a whole bunch of instrumentals of this favorite song of many musicians using different instruments. Here are these... Attached image(s) |
