(Rekha) Time Machine (1992)

This film that was to star Rekha, Raveena Tandon, Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and others was to be directed by Shekhar Kapur of “Bandit Queen (19894)” and other notable films. After several weeks of shooting was completed, it was shelved due to financial problems. A plan to resurrect with Aamir Khan in the lead resurfaced in 2007 but it quickly dissipated. There were rumors that Kapur wanted to restart the movie once again, this time however with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. So far nothing materialized.

(Rekha) Geetanjali (1993)

Shakti Samanta of "Aradhana (1969)" fame produced and directed this film. Jeetendra, who plays a mild mannered professor, takes the back seat as Rekha dominates the proceedings from the beginning to the end of the movie. Even when a scene calls for handling ruffians, it is Rekha who is in the middle of the action manhandling baddies. She plays twin sisters (Geeta and Anjali, hence the title of the movie), one as a popular dancer and the other as a housewife.

Bappi Lahiri doles out his regular stuff. The difference here is instead of Asha and Kishoreda, it is now Kavita and Kumar Sanu. For the song "Pehli Baar Aayee Hoon" (in the second post) Bappida borrows part of the music from the hit song "Dekha Hai Pehli Baar" from Nadeem-Shravan's "Saajan (1991)".

I am uploading songs of this film from an original soundtrack album in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs...

(Rekha) Madam X (1994)

This film is an unashamed copy of Amitabh’s hit film “Don (1978)”. The only difference here is it is Rekha playing the role of Amitabh in the film. Not only she played the same role, but also she tried to mimic some of mannerisms of Amitabh, both in acting style and dialogue delivery. Rekha is a fine actress and she could have stuck to her own style. It probably wouldn’t have made much difference for this film. It was simply bad. By the way, this was Rekha playing a double role in back-to-back two films. It was only the previous year she appeared as twin sisters in “Geetanjali”. Now here she is again in a dual role.

Interestingly the film’s assistant director was Ajay Devgn, the then up and coming actor who made his adult acting debut in “Phool aur Kante” in 1991. He appeared earlier as a child artiste in the 1985 film “Pyari Behna”.

I am uploading songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs…

Concluding Songs from "Madam X (1994)"...

Here are the rest of the songs from this album. Incidentally, for some reason the song "Main Hoon" is credited to Sudha Malhotra. I don't believe she has been active since 1982. It sounds more like Kavita's. I may be wrong about this. I am requesting members to clarify this. Thank you.

Here are the rest of the songs...

(Rekha) Ab Insaf Hoga (1995)

It seems like Rekha appeared in a series of movies in early to mid 90's that have almost similar themes. She played a woman who is wronged and when no law could give her the justice she takes on herself to administer it by getting rid of the offenders. In most of these films she was in, almost all the time the male characters took the back seat. This movie, with Mithun also in the lead, again had the same theme.

One redeeming feature of this film was its music. Anand & Milind composed several catchy tunes that are worth humming and pleasing to listen to.

Here are these songs from an original soundtrack album...

(Rekha) Nishana (1995)

In this otherwise an average album there is one sparkler. The duet by Alka & Sanu, "Saamne Baithi Raho" is a real beauty, taking back to the nostalgic songs of 60's. Here is this and other songs from this film from an original soundtrack album...

(Rekha) Aurat Aurat Aurat (1996)

Famous director of Telugu films and numerous award-winning K. Vishwanath wrote the story and directed this film. Unfortunately this is the same run-of-the-mill story and like many movies of 90's she already was in, Rekha finds herself once again in the prison accused of killing someone and trying to vindicate herself.

Except for a couple that are from CDs, all songs are from a DVD. Unfortunately audio quality of these songs is not uniform, some good and others poor. For this reason, I decided to upload all these songs from the DVD at a lower bit rate.

Here are the songs from this album...

(Rekha) Kama Sutra (1996) - An English Film

Rekha appeared in a principal role in this controversial English film by Mira Nair. The movie's title has nothing to do with Vatsayana's book of the same name. No songs...

I have seen the film long time back and forgot everything about the film. But many thanks for keeping things straight for us Sangeetji.

Cheers,

(Rekha) Khiladiyon ka Khiladi (1996)

This is another movie in which Rekha plays a negative role. This time she goes to the extent to woo Akshay Kumar, who probably is half her age. She even has a shower scene with him. I am uploading songs from this album in two back-to-back posts.

The song "In the Night No Control" is a copy of the 1984 English hit song by Laura Branigan. Its title was "Self Control".

Here is the first set of songs...
