(Mala) Mere Huzoor (1968)
Here is one of my favorite albums of Shankar & Jaikishan. It is amazing that this late in their innings this musical duo delivered hit after hit (this one with Shankar only). Rafi Saab has several beautiful solos in this album, three to be exact. My favorite is "Rukh Se". Mala Sinha, riding in the train when Jeetendra was singing about her, never looked this furiously beautiful. Then Mannada has the great song in "Jhanak Jhanak". I am uploading these songs in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of songs... Attached image(s) |

(Waheeda) Coolie (1983)
This movie directed by Manmohan Desai that became a huge hit mainly because Amitabh was critically injured while shooting a scene for the film. He was close to death for several months following the accident. The entire nation in general and the folks in the industry (they had huge investments in his movies) in particular waited anxiously praying for his life and good health. Amitabh recuperated after nearly a year and resumed to act again. The movie “Coolie” was to be a tragedy when the film started shooting. But because of the accident to Amitabh and all the negative impact it may have on the film and to avoid backlash with audience who may have bad feelings about it, the ending was changed. Unfortunately for all the ballyhoo the movie received following Amitabh’s accident, in spite of it being a huge hit, it was a pretty tame and contrived story. The same or similar storylines were treated umpteen times before, even with Amitabh playing the same lead. One good thing about the movie was its music and songs. It was one of the glorious moments in the career of the singer Shabbir Kumar, I am uploading these songs from an original soundtrack album in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post… This post has been edited by swarapriya: May 30 2011, 12:56 PM Attached image(s) |

Swarapriya, I'm not sure if Shabbir Kumar was son of Rafi sahab. Could anybody please confirm? No, he's not. He just followed in Rafi Sahab's footsteps. It was my misunderstanding. Thanks for clearing this SJFan. Cheers. -S |
