(Mumtaz) Brahmachari (1968)
Here is a beautiful musical from Shankar & Jaikishan. It also had a heartwarming performance by the leading man, Shammi. Then there is that electric presence of Mumtaz in a supporting role. I don't think she ever looked this slim and this pretty. During the filming of this movie, according to rumors, Shammi and Mumtaz were romantically involved. May be that showed whenever Mumtaz appeared on the screen. This movie won several Filmfare awards. It won for the Best Film, the Best Story (Sachin Bhowmick), the Best Actor (Shammi Kapoor), the Best Music (Shankar & Jaikishan), the Best Lyrics (Shailendra for "Main Gaaoon"), and the Best Male Playback Singer (Mohd. Rafi Saab for "Dil Ke Jharoke Mein"). There are seven songs in this film, all sung by Rafi Saab. Six of them are solos and one is a duet. All songs are good, but the song "Dil Ke Jharoke Mein" is one of my all-time favorites of Rafi Saab. He was absolutely phenomenal and simply fabulous the way he sings this song. An hair-raising exuberant experience. I will upload these songs in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs... Attached image(s) |

(Rekha) Saal Solvan Chadya (1977) - A Punjabi Film
Rekha appeared as a guest in this Punjabi film. There are some beautiful songs in this album, thanks to the lovely songs of Dilraj Kaur. When I first listened to these songs, for a moment I thought I was hearing Asha sing. Kaur's voice has such an uncanny resemblance to that of Asha. But Kaur is her own person as many of her songs in Hindi have shown. I am uploading eight songs from this film with Kaur singing six of them. It looks like I am still missing a few songs from this album. These are shown in red italics in the table below. If you can, please kindly share these missing songs with rest of us. Thank you. Here is the lovely voice of Dilraj Kaur and the voices of other equally good singers... Attached image(s) |

(Sharmila) Sunny (1984)
After their successful debut the previous year with "Betaab", Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh were paired again for the second time. It was also a second movie for each one of them. Repeating the formula of "Betaab", the producers retained the services of RD for music direction and Anand Bakshi for lyrics for this Raj Khosla directed venture. I am uploading songs form this fine album in two back-to-back posts. Interestingly, the beautiful song "Jaane Kya Baat Hai" by Lata was based on RD's own tune in Bengali. It was the song "Chokhe Name Brishti" sung by Asha for a non-filmi album. (I am including this song here.) For some curious reason, RD had here Lata sing the song based on the same tune. Asha, many years later paying tribute to RD, sang the Hindi version herself. I am including this version song here. It is taken from her album, "Asha Reveals Real R.D. Burman (Disc 1)". Here are the songs in the first post... Attached image(s) |

SP,
Thank you very much for Sunny album. Congratulations for becoming fourth highest contributor (in terms of posts) to HF. It is not simply the shear volume, your posts are very widely read. BTW, among top four, three contributors are female members. Exon This post has been edited by Exon: Apr 14 2011, 02:59 AM |

I am having so much fun sharing this tiny treasure lode of legacy music. It is such a vast ocean. I realize that I am only making an infinitesimal contribution. But the pleasure I derive from doing this makes it just worthwhile to move forward with unabated enthusiasm and undying zeal. Music is forever. Cheers, S |

(Vyjayanti) Ganwaar (1970)
After getting married in 1968, Vyjayanti Mala started phasing out from her movie commitments. This movie, "Ganwaar" was the last mainstream movie that she starred in. She did appear after a 19 year gap in a movie called "Ladki" in 1989 that went unnoticed. Songs from this album were recently uploaded in the "Saat Saath" thread in the "Sangeet ke Sitarey" section. These are available starting at the following location... http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...4617&st=865 |
