My nephew...a games addict did something wonderful to my system..i.e, my computer. Suddenly it started spewing a fantastic language which is not known to any humanbeing.. i am posting a pic ..of how it looks. Needless to say, all the menus come in that lingo only... I tried system restore, but it is not working...Checked up, and saw that restore option is ON.
Hence i got no other alternative except to turn to the techie guys and gals out here...Please Help me !!!! Yes..i know that re-installing the OS is there...but kept it for last alternative.. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Marc, HT bhai..know i can count on you..
Actually i did try system restore...but it is just not working..and no error messages either...that is very funny. Will try every trick in the bag..and later tonight will start the drill with Win xp disc... But it is amazing how lost we can be in the world of strange lingo... I have done so many times and all my files are safe. The system files or the settings get back to the time when the system was back-ed up. Only I have noticed the folders you have deleted come back though empty. |

you mean restore from registory? These incremental backups / restores work with servers. In case of PCs, this is simply done by using restore disc that brings PC to factory settings

It resembles Windows in many ways. Sometimes even crashes like it. Besides simplefable would have to switch browsers that would be traumatic enough. It looks like browser is IE6. Why don't you have you nephew fix the either the system font setting or regional setting in Control Panel. but if this some kind of virus then you will have to reinstall. Doesn't your nephew know what he did. I think windows does have a mechanism where you can boot up in last good snapshot or something. may be safe boot would work as well. |

Thankyou R&D..for your kind suggestions.
i tried everything..last good configuration start..restore to another date..etc.But surprisingly none worked...one of those vagaries of OS..i think. I use Firefox...somehow never liked IE. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

I use Firefox...somehow never liked IE. may be the font file is corrupt. get the font directory from some else with same os. backup and replace the font directory. you can also do checksum on the font files and compare with the good filesystem. Did you try another font for the system font to see if that helps like the Ariel. This post has been edited by r&d: Jun 7 2009, 01:43 AM |
