Paigham (1959)
This movie boasts two southern belles acting together for the first time (Vyjayanti Mala and B. Saroja Devi, the latter you may recall acted later inL.V. Prasad's "Sasural."). Also, it starred for the first time Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar together. Dilip was already an established actor and Raaj Kumar was trying to make his name. C. Ramchandra, who at this juncture in his career provided music for many South Indian movies, was the composer. Gemini, who were a force to reckon with in the movie industry all over India, thanks to their magnum opus "Chandralekha", were the producers. Ramanad Sagar, who won Filmfare award, wrote the dialogues. Here is the description of all the songs from "Paigham (1959)" and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) |

woman is the mirror in which man sees the reflection of his own self, his own dormant and hidden powers of genius when she comes and stands before him A woman is a meaning to life ! Someone who loves, who cares ! |

Swarapriya ji,
Thanks for sharing this album. Another thing to notice : Even though the composer is C Ramchandra, there is no song sung by Lata ji, his favorite female playback singer. I believe this is one of those films after the time that Lata ji had differences with CR and stopped singing for him. Later she sang one notable song for CR on special request from producer director V. Shantaram. That was "Oh nirdayi preetam" from the film Stree. And later, even though, CR and Lata ji were not speaking, they gave one of the most popular patriotic song, "Aye mere watan ke logo", penned by Kavi Pradeep ji. Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Parag, You voilated the rule you imposed! You said "ji" when you were addressing me. Yes, you're right about Lata's rift with CR. What is this? Did you ever think about why Lata had differences with S.D. Burman, C. Ramchandra, Shankar-Jaikishan, and Laxmikant-Pyarelal after they helped each other with so many hit songs? Of course she never sang for O.P. Nayyar. The legend she is, sometimes probably the ego takes over. May be or may be this is not the case here. But there are too many instances of differences with this many music maestros to not think in those terms. Cheers, Swarapriya |
