Here you go. The Tamil copy of "Yeh nayi nayi preet hai" from the ultimate copy-cat music composer Veda. The film is "Chitrangi". Well....the ultimate copy-cat (as you say), did not copy entirely mindlessly !! Ths song is actually a blend of 2 songs !! It starts with the Pocketmaar song...then the interlude music - also from the Pocketmaar song...but the verse is lifted from 'Na tum hamen jaano' from Baat ek raat ki. Thereafter, there's a short piece inspired from the Pocketmaar verse ...and then the song returns to the mukhda of the Pocketmaar song !! In 50s and 60s, there were many 'exchanges' between Tamil and Hindi films....from the time of C Ramchandra ( who in fact started his career with Tamil films). Most of these were triggered by the same producer making a Hindi and a Tamil version...and good songs / scene -specific songs were often reproduced in the later version. But the music directors would be different since only one or two tunes may have been retained...and the rest would still have to be composed afresh. Therefore, the music directors of such films cannot be held to have 'copied' these tunes...since these must have been decided by the producer / director - possibly in consultation with the music director. We have seen such songs being repeated in Hindi films too where the composer of the corresponding Tamil song is mentioned in the credits of the film...as music consultant or associate .....but not as music director. In this case, however, the producers of the two films in question ( pocketmaar 1956 and chitrangi 1964) do not appear to be the same...and it is possible that the copy-cat title may be appropriate - esp in the context where the song is based on 2 entirely different songs - one of Madan Mohan (1956) and one of S D Burman (1962) !! Sri "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)
