Excuse the English but cannot type loads on Madam Noor Jehan in Malayalam na. Noor Jehan for those who do not know was born in Pakistan (tho it was all India then)--she started her acting career as a child artist. Very soon she began singing too. Classically trained and diff from the heavy voices of the day she was a huge hit. By age 15 or so she was heroine in movies and her singing was the rage. She was called the Mallika-e-Tarannum!!! Lataji began her career in the Noor Jehan mould. In fact for her first audiotion she sang a Madam song. During Partition Noor Jehan went back to her home area and became the premier singer of Pakistan. Noor Jehan and Lataji remained friends till Madam passed away in 2001.
I got to know Madam only after her death though I had heard of her from childhood thro the references in articles on lataji. I happened to see a song on the neta nd listened to it. Got hooked. After Asha, no voice, no singing had touched me like this--the feeling that transcends time and space--the feeling of a rapport that is beyond understanding. Anyway I became her devoted fan.
And Vivek, bheek kaun maag raha hai. Music is universal. It has no boundaries. It just touches the heart.

I was referring to the trend of 'borrowing' from and even apeing western tunes nowadays. Yes... muzik has no boundaries and esp music from the sub-continent which doesnt recognise the LOC. Me thankful to you for introducing me to another khazaana from apna hi ghar Amen !

As for kiska sher hai.... dont know Actually remember Naushadsaab quoting this one in an interview when asked about the decline of Indian music in Indian films ! And it kinda fits in my philosophy too

Yes, me too like simple western instrumentals ...except that I really dont have much taste in it ...would love to develop some taste.. but Hindustani sangeet se fursat hi nahin milti... ..and ab after joining HF to poochho hi mat !
