The spokeswoman is right -- recording songs is not bypassing the encryption. wma, indeed is intact.
In fact, in one of the threads here a few days ago, I mentioned that one could use disk_writer plugin of winamp to record anything in wav format and then encode to any XYZ format, which would have no encryption on it.
If you can listen, you can record; if you can see, you can save!
