From the baton of the unsung "Krishna Dayal B Sc", we got, in 'Lekh', what, in my opinion, is a score par excellence, as good as the best we have ever heard in our films. Each song was a gem, be it Suraiya-Mukesh's heart-warming "Badra ki chhaon tale nanhi nanhi boondiyan", Geeta's heart-rending "Tu muskura lab pe mere hansi rahe", Mukesh's unforgettable "Lut gaya din raat ka aaraam kyon" (an early pointer to why this singer is regarded, by many, as the ultimate in soulful singing), Suraiya's evocative "Seene pe mere barq giraakar chale gaye", or Asha-Mukesh's "Yeh kaafila hai pyar ka chalta hi jaayega", arguably one of the greatest duets heard in our films, breathlessly rendered by Asha and Mukesh in their salad days. And yet, what happened to Krishna Dayal, the creator of all these lovelies? Who knows?
