You said it... :

"Great quiz. Excellent song selection, good mix of toughies and sitters, and nice visuals" - anindya

"Thanks for a most interesting quiz. I don't follow Kishore that enthusiastically, plus I haven't actually
seen the videos of most old songs, so I know only the most obvious ones. " - tadatmya

"A fantastic quiz... Please tell me where you got those photos " . - rahul

"Special Chitrahaar quiz on Kishore da was great Pavan bhai... Enjoyed thoroughly solving the quiz."
- indranath

"Since one has not seen all the songs one has had to take a guess. Lovely quiz though" - dikshit

"As usual good song picks and great quiz subject"
- Ketan and Shalini Dholkia

"Had been waiting for your quiz for a long long time. I know I have crossed the deadline for today only I came across this quiz. I leave on you to decide on the points. In fact points do not matter (though jeetna kise acchha nahi lagta hai) - khelne mein participate karne me maza hai."
- Shobhan Dutta

"Your clues surely helped in solving quite a few and confirming a few. "
- balaji and malini

"Some of the clues are tough but many brought back good memories of watching those movies. "
- hema

"It has been a long time since I worked so hard on getting answers for a quiz. That speaks for the effort that must have gone into making the quiz. However, some of the questions could have used some better clues, e.g., in No. 10 and 22."
- satish kalra

"Don't think I will score as high as the Kishore champions - but as one of the millions of his diehard fans around the world, I thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve the quiz. Thanks for all the time you put into these wonderful puzzles. I must envy your film collection. Keep them coming ! "
- Robin Bhatt

Ab meri baari :

I must thank everyone for participating in the quiz [and to all those who did manage to find some time solving the quiz but could not send their entry]. The response to the quiz is heartwarming and the participation made this quiz a worthwile effort for me...

Making a quiz on Kishore da is not an easy task... Specially having seen the passion and devotion (and knowledge) of his fans on internet (me being just one of them), it came to me as a challange.. To be honest I had a fear factor of getting this KK quiz cracked within hours of its launch.. Fortunately a few of the questions saved me.. At the time of framing the quiz, apart from the menu for (would be) dhaakad participants, another challange for me was the song selections and filtering... as initially I prepared a 75 question quiz (on 75th birthday), but I found it a bit lengthy myself so I decided to restrict it to a 40 question quiz.. but the biggest problem then was which ones to be kept out of the final 40 list... I decided to keep out some of the songs which are representative for kk-hero pair and also I decided to put some of the heroes on the bench including Dilip saab. Infact I still have a lot of material ready for yet another quiz on Kishore da.. but thats some other time...

______________________________________________________

The scoring pattern:

The quiz was divided in two phases. In the first phase, each answer had a maximum of 2.5 marks (1.5 for song identification and 1.0 for film identification) which was reduced to 2 marks for each correct answer in the second phase( 1 for song identification and 1 for film identification). Maximum 100 marks possible to score in the entire quiz.

ANSWERS :

As the length of this post has become very long., I am forced to cut some of the comments of participants and restricted myself in commenting too... I will try to incoporate in any subsequent discussions..

A1.
Song : Marne ki duaaen kyon maangun [14/27]
Film : Ziddi - 1948 [14/27]
Music : Khemchand Prakash
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Jazbi

# Goofed up mostly as : Dukhi man mere from Funtoosh

A2.
Song : Raahi tha main aawara [10/27]
Film : Sahib Bahadur -1977 [10/27]
Music : Madan Mohan
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Rajendra Krishna

*unusual relationship: this film was based on Inspector General, which had Danny Kay. The Lookochoori song is a Danny Kay inspiration: “In the land of San Domingo” - Anindya

# Yes Anindya, you are right... One more Interesting point about this is that around 25+ years back Dev Anand's Afsar was too based on the same story.. How often we see the same hero repeated in the remake (that too after 25+ years?..)
This one goofed up mostly as : Main aaya hoon from Ameer Gareeb. Proved to be a little difficult though a clear hint was provided.. One reason could be the film was not released properly and the video CDs have arrived only a few years back.. and the film was not accesible to many...

A3.
Song : Kya jaano... Ye mere bandhe haath [15/27]
Film : Bandhe Hath - 1973 [15/27]
Music : R.D. Burman
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics :Majrooh

*Googly! I am guessing here as Bandhe Haath is a double role - Dikshit

#Well it was not intended as a googley (as there were other songs given as googley) and the hint was a straight forward which you got right... and the heroine in the pic (Kumud Chagaani) was another clear hint ..

A4.
Song : Jeevan se bhari teri aankhein [22/27]
Film : Safar - 1970 [24/27]
Music : Kalyan ji-Anand ji
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Indeevar

* imo, K-A's best song for Kishore and one of my personal favorites. - Robin
# Yes I agree.. infact I feel the way kishore rendered in the context of the film and the lyrics is very special.. the song is full of life...

A5.
Song : Rafta rafta dekho aankh meri ladi hai [22/27]
Film : Kahaani Kismat Ki - 1973 [19/27]
Music : Kalyan ji-Anand ji
Singer : Kishore Kumar & Usha Timothy
Lyrics : Rajendra Krishan

# Most of you got it right.. It was a DD Chitrahaar favourite of mid 80s and 90s

A6.
Song : O maajhi re [24/27]
Film : Khushboo - 1975 [22/27]
Music : R.D. Burman

Singers : Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Chorus
Lyrics : Sahir

*Could not make out Shashi clue and SC helped - Dikshit

A8.
Song : Goya ke chunanche [18/27]
Film : Manoranjan - 1974 [20/27]
Music : R.D. Burman
Singers : Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey and Chorus
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi

# The hints worked for many as in the first phase only 10 ppl could get it right

A9.
Song : Pyar kar liya to kya, pyar hai khata nahin [10/27]
Film : Kabhi Kabhi - 1976 [10/27]
Music : Khayyam
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Sahir

*Second googly! - Dikshit
# Yes Dikshit you got it right... This was intended as a googley and it did worked as intended.. Even though the song is very popular and easily accesible, the people goofed up with Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin(Bachan ae haseeno) and Karz songs.

A10.
Song : Teri duniya se hoke majboor chala [23/27]
Film : Pavitra Paapi - 1970 [22/27]
Music : Prem Dhawan
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Prem Dhawan

# This one proved to be an old Chitrahaar favourite of many.. as even though the film on video is not very popular and easily accesible, people remembered the song from its Chitrahaar screenings.. Satish ji, do you still think it required more clues...

A11.
Song : Phir wohi raat hai [17/27]
Film : Ghar - 1978 [22/27]
Music : R.D. Burman
Singer : Kishore Kumar
Lyrics : Gulzar

# This one too had some elements of confusion for many.. specially people goofing up with "Aapki aankhon me kuchh", but check two things, one, all other kishore songs were duets and two, watch rekha's sad face in the still (matches with the mood of the song)

Lyrics : Rajendra Krishna

* Abs no clue ? Hollywood comedy ? which genre ? Chaplin/Keation / Marx Bros/Laurel Hardy/..hence, had to think of a film where KK sang for MM and KK was not the hero.. hence going for Ada.. maybe ? Haye Dil Gaya, Dil Gaya, Dekho Dekho Dekho - Ada

Answer Stats :

Decade wise Songs

40s : 1
50s : 9
60s : 10
70s : 18
80s : 2

Equally distributed in pre 70 and post 70 era with 20 songs each... I did tried to have a balance in B&W and Color films and finally the balance comes out to be quite okey...

MDs:

R.D. Burman - 8
Kalyan Ji-Anand Ji - 3
Salil Chowdhury - 3
Kishore Kumar - 3
C. Ramchandra - 2
Madan Mohan - 2
Lakshmikant Pyarelaal - 2
Shankar Jaikishan - 2
Hemant Kumar - 2
Bappi Lahiri - 1
OP Naiyyar - 1
S.D. Burman - 1
Khemchand Prakash - 1
Rajesh Roshan -1
Khayyam - 1
Prem Dhawan - 1
Avinash Vyas - 1
Ravi -1
Usha Khanna - 1
Sonic-Omi -1

The most unfortunate stats of this quiz is that Burman da (SDB) got restricted to just one question. He had a total of 9 songs in the original 75 song quiz but when I filtered out the songs (to make it a 40 song quiz), his songs (specially the obvious ones and of Heroes like Dev, Kaka and Shashi for whom he had most of the representative songs for kk-hero pair) were taken out of the list...

Lyricists :

Majrooh - 6
Anand Bakshi - 6
Rajendra Krishna - 6
Shailendra - 4
Sahir - 2
Gulzar - 2
Rabindra Sangeet - 2
Hasrat - 1
Prem Dhawan - 1
Yogesh - 1
Raja Mehandi Ali Khan - 1
Prof. Jazbi - 1
Indeevar - 1
Anjaan - 1
Gauri Prasanna Majumdaar - 1
Amit Khanna - 1
MG Hashmat - 1
Irshaad - 1
Omkaar Varma - 1

Some of the prominent names who were there in the 75 Question Quiz but missed out to make in the final 40s are Neeraj, Gulshan Baawra and Naqsh Laayalpuri

Thats it folks.... I hope you enjoyed solving the quiz as much as I enjoyed making it...
