Nimii, i need one clarification....just to get comfortable with the jargons....What are tandem songs? Are they songs on same tune sung in two different languages? Version song, i would believe, would be two different versions of the same song in the same movie....is that correct?

Tandem - same song sung by another singer - usually in the same movie.
eg: O saathi tere bina bhi kya jeena has been sung by both Guru and Asha Bhonsle

Version - here I am talking about the song - more so the tune - either it can inspired/copied/ or by the same MD used for another language movie.
eg: the one I discovered today - Salilda has used the same tune for a tamil song and a hindi song, tho' the movies are not dubbed or copy of the other.

Ok...Nimii, i got it...tandem!!!!! nice jargon....

well talking of tandem songs, i will start with a very unique one...

Unique because...in most of the tandems songs of Guru (i am using this jargon now as if it was coined by me)....Guru's version typically became more popular....so you have "Jeevan Ke Safar Mein Rahi" from Munimji (tandem with Lata's version)..or "Tum Bin Jaaon Kahan" from Pyar Ka Mausam (in tandem with Rafi's version) or "Hamen Tumse Pyar Kitna" from Kudrat (in tandem with Parveen Sulatana's version)..and so on and on...it was Guru's version which was generally more popular....

But this one....a rare song indeed..."Dil Mein Kisike Pyar Ka Jalta Hua Deeya" from Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka was sung in tandem by both Lata and Kishore...Kishore's is a shorter one stanza version...it was Lata's version which was popular in this case....but the reason for this was that Kishore's version was not released on the discs though it was there in the movie....now if it wasn't there on discs, how would it be popular...but it is a fabulous rendition by Guru.....

Tandem was not coined by me either! It was used by other members here, so I am into borrowing mode!

Infact, all the songs that you have put up, further substantiate the point that in tandem, Guru bhaari pad gaye doosron ke liye....it was almost like a jinx for the others....perhaps Lata's Mere Naina Sawan Bhado was the closest in popularity to Guru's version....

Nimii, I would like to add Aa Ri Aa Ja Nindiya tu le chal kahi , that beautiful Rajesh Roshan composition from "Kunwara Baap" sung by Kishoreda and Latadidi. In this movie Kishoreda has sung for Mehmood while Latadidi has sung for his physically challenged son, both versions are brilliant.

Eskayes I do have the Lata Version (I need to check if I have it on the prerecorded tape or in digital format). Will share it with you. (In fact there was a thread on similar basis open on LMF sometime back).

After we have compiled the entire list, it will be interesting to count how many of them had the others' version more popular....i remember in school days, we used to say that singing the tandem (that time we didnot have this jargon in our vocab) version with Guru was just as jinxed as partnership of Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath...both of them almost never fired together in the same match...only difference was that Vishwanath at least used to have some ocassions of glory every now and then...but Guru never gave that luxury to anyone...

Phoolonka Taronka Sabka kehna hai from "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" has been sung by Latadidi and KK. Latadidi has sung for Zeenat Aman's brother (young Dev Anand)when they are small kids in the movie and Kishoreda has sung for the grown up Dev Anand who goes on the lookout for his lost sister in Nepal.

Its not often u hv same tunes for antaras of 2 diff songs (Spoofs and medley songs apart) -
one would surely recall the song ‘Tum meri zindagi mein kuch is tarah se aaye - bhoola sa khwaab jaise sach hoke muskuraaye’ from Bombay to Goa (1972). The soft lilting tune RD composed for the antara ‘rukti badhti dil ki dhadkan kehti hai kitne afsaane, dil ke sagar kitne gehre dil hi samjhe dil hi jaane’ was used in a rather robust fashion for the antara of the song ‘mein jo chala peekar woh cheez buri hai magar’ from the film Mukti (1977).

The BTGoa number is fairly common. Uploading the song from Mukti (128/44; 4.16 mins; KK-AB)
(Rajinder Krishan wrote for BTG while Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics for Mukti)

Nimii, are you suggesting that these songs (where there is a solo by Guru and a duet of his with another singer) dont qualify as tandem songs??? If they do not, then let us coin some category for them but not lose sight of them....

May i suggest following names then:
Duplex songs----Songs which are sung twice by same singer may be with different words in the staza (eg: "Na Jaane Din Kaise Jeevan Mein" from Chala Murari Hero Banane; Many Part 1 and Part 2 songs will fall in this category)

Duplex Tandem songs-----Songs which are sung twice by the same singer once in solo and once in in tandem with another singer (eg: "Tum Bhi Chalo Hum Bhi Chalen" from Zameer)

I know too many jargons....but then for want of any categories, it might be better to categorise them in someway nevertheless....

Madhz thanks! In fact I was singing that song in my mind in that fast pace.. - esp when the part comes phir bhi jaane kyon.. she uses a diff pitch unlike the one Guru uses. That was what made me most certain that there is definitely a tandem version of it.
