There are millions of videos on Youtube, specially bollywood rare oldies.

Here is a guide of how to download videos from Youtube.

1) Download Firefox from: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
2) Install Firefox browser.
3) Download/Install Firefox plugin/addon called "VideoDownloader" from: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/
4) The addon automatically installs and embeds in Firefox.
5) Restart Firefox and you will see an icon on the bottom right corner of the browser window.
6) Browse youtube and select any video to watch, as the video is playing click the ICON on the bottom right corner of the browser window. It opens up a window and gives you an option of saving the file. Save the file on your hard drive.
7) The downloaded file will not have any extension, you just need to rename it as ".flv" (flash video file).
8) For watching the flash video file you need FLV Player, which you can download from here: http://www.download.com/FLV-Player/3000-2139_4-10467081.html
9) Thats it folks.

The same steps apply for Google Videos except for the file extension.

Just copy and paste the youtube-video url (you will find this url at the time when you r clicking the video in Youtube) and press "Download" button....

After downloading the file just add .flv after the file name (as Azgar said).

Can anyone give me Moyea or any good FLV to Mpeg converter software (Full version)?

Because Rivavx is a trial version and it has some limitations...

For encoding I use JetAudio, which can convert WAV to WMA (Similar to MP3) in the free version.

Look for JetAudio Pro/Plus with Crack in torrents, you will find plenty of torrents.

I know you can convert flv VIDEO files to mp3 AUDIO files (yes, I know it seems like apples to oranges).

What software can do a mass conversion e.g. take a hundreds of flv files at once and start converting them to mp3?

My plan is this: (1) download all the videos from youtube. this could lead to thousands of songs (2) convert them to mp3 (3) clean the mp3s with adobe audition.

Why convert video to audio? So if I go running, I can still listen to the songs.

Any ideas? Thanks guys.

The above tool will do a batch conversion.
I think the audio quality of an FLV file is 64kbps or less than that. The internal format is MP3 though.

Thanks Azgar. Your post set me in the right direction. This program converts only part of the video to audio so for example a 6:17 clip John Johnny Janardhan will convert to mp3 but only :38 will convert. Here is a better alternative for others interested:

This has 200,000+ downloads which is a good sign. It will convert the whole song and you can even choose your bit rate (although of course, if the bit rate is 64 kbps of the original flv, converting going 128 kpbs is really not 128 kpbs).

Btw, for guys intestered in Azgar's program - DO NOT take the program from download dot com; suprisingly, they had two trojans in the installation. Use Azgar's link (I doubt I'm mixing the two up). My trusty Norton took down those suckers quickly.

GNU/Linux users have a wonderful tool called clive available. (http://clive.sourceforge.net/)
Most package managers offer it now.

To download video on console type:

clive <Youtube URL>

And it gets downloaded!


I find it wonderful and easy to use.
Best part is that if good quality mp4 if available it downloads that instead of the low quality flv which many sites and softwares seem to offer.

There is one more similar utility called 'UTube-ripper'. It comes with a simple GUI.

Personally I have found website link listed below very useful for downloading you tube videos.

Copy youtube link that appears on the right hand side box where it says URL (do not copy link directly from browser, on occasions I have noticed it to be different).

Paste youtube link in to savevid box and click download.

You can download either MP4 or FLV. The interesting thing is that you can use MP4 directly to make video CD. Also, If you have sound editing program such as Goldwave or other, you can still open MP4 video file with Goldwave and then save it as MP3 audio file.

I use format factory. It is just too good.. ANY FORMAT TO ANY FORMAT!

For downloading youtube videos I use downloadhelper (mozilla plugin). It can download streaming music (if is wma, mp3.. )
