Hi All,
Here are a few songs composed AND sung by Dada Burman himself. A unique voice indeed.
Enjoy

Song # 2.

Song # 3. Lyrics by Shailendra are so simple and yet so vivid with the truth of life.
As a side note, Vijay Anand approached Majrooh, Navketan's "in-house" lyricist, for penning the songs of guide. Majrooh apparently refused to write anything for the character of Rosie, saying he cannot write for a character with so blatantly loose morals. Vijay Anand then approached Shailendra. After hearing the story line and character sketch of Rosie, Shailendra's comment was "Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai, aaj phir marne ka iraada hai". Vijay Anand commented in a later interview that how Shailendra had, so aptly, captured the entire essence of Rosie in those two lines. Shailendra's lyrics allowed Dada Burman his one and only Filmfare award. According to film historian Raju Bharatan, Dada always considered "Guide" as his lifetime best score.

And Last but not the least, here is Papa Burman singing for Beta Burman.
PS: Could we start a chain of songs by composers themselves - the rare ones i.e. Hemant Kumar was a regular singer in his own right with good many songs, so I wouldn't include his here. I am thinking of the likes of Madan Mohan and his "Mai re main kaa se kahoon" in Dastak. C Ramchandra could be another. Pancham himself did not sing many, but whatever he did, he did pretty good. There might be such hidden jewels somehere. Start looking.

To name some more just popping into my head right now ... which are I guess composed and sung by SD sahab himself :-
Safal hogi Teri Aradhana - Aradhana
Sun Mere Bandhu Re - Sujata
Megh De Pani De - Guide
Mere Sajan Hai Us Paar - Bandini
Prem Ke Pujari Hum Hai - Prem Pujari
Meri Duniya Hai Maa - Talash
Like his father's songs , I have lots of pancham da's song in his own voice
Mehbooba Mehbooba of Sholay se leke Dhaano ki aankhon mei .... ka surmaaa....... from movie Kitaab, to name some cool ones :- O Meri Jaan maine kahan , Duniyaa Mein Logon Ko , Bhoot Bangla one with Mehmood , and so many more....
I dunno if anyone interested to start a thread or not but jaab panchaam daa ki baat hui hai to I can't resist my Bawrapaan for this song "Kal kya hoga kisko pataa (Kasme Vaade)" , according to me better among all his song where he has not yelling a lot... those who has not heard him often would hardly know it's his voice ( dont even argue on this as I have asked so many people so far to guess the singer and all have gone BOINL BOINK
)
Enjoy the song

Hi Jay,
That's great. I am uploading a couple more of Dada Burman's songs. I have the rendition of "Naina Barse rimjhim rimjhim" by Madan Mohan himself. I got it off the indianscreen.com site. Some of you might have it too. Let me know if anybody wants it. Meanwhile enjoy Dada Burman.

His second song from "Guide". This is probably the only instance Dada recorded himself twice for the same movie.

OOPS,
My list shows Dada had two vocals in "Zindagi Zindagi" as well. First one is already uploaded earlier. The second one is here.

Here is 'Wahaan kaun hai tera'. I believe it has an extra stanza compared to the one uploaded already. Its 32 kpbs though - the quality could certainly have been better.

Finally, here is a 1948 non-film song by the senior Burman. Excellent song!
Yatri-ji, I would be interested in Madan Mohan's rendition of 'Naina barse rim jhim'. Wouldbe grateful if you could upload it for me.
thanks!

Hi Ankur
Drop the "ji" , please. Here's Madan Mohan's rendition of Naina Barse I got from Indianscreen.com. It is an interesting story. Producer wanted the picturization to be done on location and Lata had been unable to record due to illness. So Sadhna, much to the amusement of the unit, lip-synched the entire song to Madan Mohan's voice.
This is only a brief clip. According to Indianscreen.com site, the full recording is (or should be) with Madan Mohan's son, Sanjeev Kohli in his private collection.

Another rarity from Indianscreen.com
Rendered by Mr Raj Khosla (remember the action flick he directed - Mera Gaon Mera Desh).

Bawrabhai,
Continuing on the thoughts of Pancham singing for himself my two absolute favorites are
ye zindagi kuchh bhi sahi from Romance
and O Majhi Teri Naiya Se from Aar Paar
Maybe we should start a thread on Pancham singing for himself

I appologise for being kind of misleading in my last post. By Pancham singing for himself I meant he was the playback singer...... I meant to start a thread where RD is the playback singer for his own compositions. RD had acted in very few movies and except Bhoot Bangla the rest had been fleeting appearances. Again sorry for the confusion

Was going through this post. Just a correction...the lyricist in question was not Majrooh but Hasrat Jaipuri.
