Gurufans!,

Was thinking of posting on this subject for almost last three years
since I watched guru's favourite flick FOTR for the first time. that
is Fiddler on the Roof... A brilliant film indeed and its not
difficult to understand why it was the most dearest film to guru... I
have seen it a few times since then but everytime I watch it, it
leaves a lot of questions unanswered for me.. The most intruiging
question of them all is Why did Guru never attempted to do a Fiddler
on the roof in Hindi which was so close to his heart... FOTR was
definately HIS kind of Film (Subhash Ghai tried a poor poor version..
an insult to the original)...

Topol's character was best suited to Guru (Guru should have known
that).. Guru had that charisma and onscreen presence and would have
definately matched the wit, sense of humor and brilliant timing of
Topol and and also had the ability to switch from Nonsensical to
Philosophical in less than 5 seconds.. Here I dont mean copying
Topol's mannerisms but Guru himself had the same attitude, singing
abilities, same kind of Unusuality/awkardness and charismatic screen
presence (from much before Topol made his screen debute in mid 60s)
as Topol's character in the film.

Another reason for me to expect guru had made that movie instead of
BKND, CKNG or Shabhash Daddy that it was a MUSICAL.. I believe guru
would have done a wonderful job as a director, music director and
singer in a Musical like FOTR.. Also FOTR's Songs were again HIS kind
of songs.. Apart from himself Salil da could have been another good
choice for music director..

I thought of one reason that it may be the AGE factor (of the
character topol in mid 50s) that guru didn't wanted to play an old
character.. but I was wrong as in Shabash Daddy, he played almost the
same age.. (I believe Shabash Daddy had a few sequences similar to
FOTR.. need to see this again.. I had bought the VCD a few months back
but given it to a friend who visited from delhi and was unable to find
it there.. and since then not re-bought it)...

IMHO, Guru should have made an indian version of FOTR instead of
CKNG/SD as the film was very close to heart, it was perfact film for
his kind of cinema and it was a musical..

If anyone one of you haven't seen it, grab a DVD/VCD and watch it for
Guru (a true guru fan will definately find him in the film).. Those
who have seen it, please post your opinions whether you feel the same
about the guru/topol factor and whether Guru should have made it...

Just another Kishore fan
