There are apparently 2 versions of this song, one with Meena Kapoor and
one with Shamshad Begum. I have not downloaded and heard this version.
Which is it? And does somebody have the other one?

This is the Meena Kapoor version SB as listed by Sri. The details being the same, I am not repeating them
I have a revival version too, which says Meena Kapoor again.

I think all version have Chitalkar, Meena Kapoor & Shamshad Begum signing.
Shamshad sings in the end.
indianscreen.com has given a 5:17 version with one minute of extended music.

Well... I can't tell if there's just one or two female voices in this song, now that I know... maybe it IS two voices. I don't have a good ear especially for unfamiliar voices. The lyrics do suggest that the song is picturised on two gals and a guy. The CD insert however mentions Meena Kapoor & Chitalkar only, so does the Revival CD.

CORRECTION :
The song 'Meri jaan Sunday ke Sunday' is sung by Chitalkar , Meena Kapoor and Shamshad Begum. The one I played on the show was the Revival version - the one uploaded here is the original version from the audio CD. I had copied the credits given on the Revival CD ( same have apparently beeen given on the audio CD).

However, Shamshad Begum does sing ....in fact, the last stanza is sung by her along with Chitalkar, albeit in a softer tone than usual.

My dear Nimii ....haste is waste ....please read carefully ...i have now marked the relevant portion in 'bold' letters so that the message is clear. The one I played on the show was the Revival version - the one uploaded here by J...is the original one.

And I must add that you may be too quick to condemn the revival versions - without having heard many (i've heard you say this earlier). While I too like the originals and would prefer a good, 'original' recording anyday, some of the revival ones with minimal embellishments are nice to hear too...for a change.

The producers of the film Nirala advertised that movie-goers would get their cinema ticket money back if they could leave the hall before hearing the song Mehfil Mein Jal Uthi Shama rendered by Lata Mangeshkar !

It is said that C Ramchandra always composed his music after receiving the words unlike some other music directors. But once the words were received, the tune would be ready in a jiffy ! It is said that he produced 9 songs in the space of two weeks for the film Azaad (1955) which had so many good songs like 'Na bole na bole na bole re', 'Kitna haseen hai mausam', 'Aplam chaplam' etc.

Next one : song # 5 from the radio program - also from Albela, and, arguably, the best 'lori' in hindi film music

There's an interesting anecdote related to this, in Lata Mangeshkar's biography :

" At a recording for a song for Albela, the musicians and Lata had all arrived on time - but for some reason the recording of the song had to be cancelled. Without getting worked up, C Ramchandra extracted from his pocket a piece of paper containing the words of another song from the same film.
He reflected a bit, ran his fingers over the harmonium, and a melody extraordinaire took birth ! He gave instructions to the musicians and while they practised, he taught the tune to Lata.
Within minutes they had recorded the unforgettable lullaby 'Dheere se aaja ri akhiyan mein....' !!!!!! "

Lata singing with the music director himself, Chitalkar

C Ramchandra, the man, is described as a tall person, well built and good looking, with a streak of grey hair. He smoked a lot ( tin in hand) and often wore off-white sharkskin suits.Sometimes, as was the fashion in those days, he would have a handkerchief knotted around his neck. He was also known to have a special liking for Scotch...and of course, Lata Mangeshkar !
