Hi Ashish and Inaam

I have three songs from Khazanchi in very good quality on an audio tape. But, as usual you guys will have to wait for a week and a half. Shamshad Begum features in all three song-

1)sawan ke nazare hain la la la la laa (I regard it as one of the best songs of Shamshad. Just wonder why do these HMV rogues never put this on any of her compilations angry2.gif . They start all her compilations with post independence songs arbitrarily excluding her superb output from 1940s.)

2)Nainon ke ban ki

3)Ek kali nazon ki pali rahti thi sada

Inaam

Hi Thanks Pulkit for reply.
You are right indeed . The career of Shamshad starts from 1937 and it is quiet strange that her songs when she was considered as an edge to others ,are not included by HMV.They start from Piya gaye rangoon and end to Kajra Mohabbatwala.Well we have read she had cut many discs before coming to Bombay and also on ALL INDIA RADIO .Nothing info on this.May be in subsequent time AIR releses ome of old compilations.I hope Lahore Radio have preserved old songs like "EK BAAR PHIR KAHO ZARA "etc. .This is the main reason most indians are oblivious of that golden era. Before 1947 she has large credits like Humayun,Bairam Khan,Zamindar etc.Sameis case with her Punjab songs She reigned punjabi film industry till 1965 with hits like Lachhi with one poipular song meri lagdi kise na vekhi, then do lacchian, Koday shah,,BHANGRA,PIND DI KURI{ having hit Teri meri ik jindri },Posti,,Chaii, with the last which i remember song with Mahender Kapoor..Perhaps her last punjabi song.Regarding her pre Lachhi no other info is there.

Regarding uploads thanks a lot. ,take your time and upload when ready. Thanks a lot again .
Thanking you

Dear Maheshks,
Thank you very much for uploading that gem ' Ek Tera Sahara' by Shamshad begum transferred from those 78 RPM records! Quite a feat! I am impressed. However, I have one question. I see that you've uploaded Part 1 and Part 2 of 'Ek Tera Sahara'. Now, are they actually two different songs? Or was it just one big song split in to two parts? If its one song, I would like to combine them and remaster them in to one song. However, if they are two independent songs, I would rather keep them that way. So if anybody can explain it, that would help me. Thanks. I am looking for more transfers from those scratchy, old, sweet-sounding 78s. They are a priceless collection!
Yours sincerely,
Shama Raj

Yes, at two different places. It is on both sides of the 78rpm. However
the sides are not labeled as part 1 and part 2. HFGK list them as two
separate songs. But it has always been considered as one song right
from 1946 onwards.

mahesh saab,
upload ke liye dhanyawaad! (aargh! wrong thread, but dhanyawaad stays biggrin.gif biggrin.gif)

why do you encode in wma? (I am sure this has been asked before and I am happy to get the song and have nothing against you encoding in wma, just curious)
Is it a better (better quality for same filesize) codec? which software can be used to convert to mp3? besweet doesnt seem to do wma.

thanks
maheshks
nm007(no alphabet for Bond) : laugh.gif

It is a proven fact now that MP3 encolding does not give proper sound quality for the sounds having frequency of more than 7khz. Indian music is dominated by string instruments like sitar, violine, sarod etc.and the frequency range of the sound produced by these instruments is 5-16 khz. If the listeners have good ears...the downgraded quality of these tracks is quite discernible. Although it does not have much impact on the sound of percussion instruments and singers if encoded with a bit rate of 128kbps or more, it produces a shrill in 5-16 khz frequencies rather than keeping the frequencies in original form available on the source. Such is not a case with WMA9.

For conversion from mp3 to wma9, a number of free softwares are available and you can download them from download.com

regards
maheshks
This one from Mirza Saahiban

Half of the song is sung by chorus and an unknown male voice...rest half by Shamshad Begumji in Punjabi...in traditional tune.
