I have seen the mail below by you and I am very happy to know that some one have gone through in such detail regarding the CARVAN GUZAR GAYA SONG, I also like the lyrics too much but could not under stand some lines, I request you to please give the explanation of the song, even you take as much time as you want no problem , I will wait for that, thank you.

"Dear ROM,

In my life, I have some incidences, which are God’s boon for me.
When I was in IX th standard, once in a week, one period (of 35 minutes) was reserved for general talks (except study). The presiding Sir for that period was of highly poetic nature. Once he sang this poem very lovely voice that we all were fulfilled (flooded) with enormous joy,
The whole classroom echoed…once more sir, once more sir. He put one condition that he will sang stanza by stanza & all students have to explain it in their own words. We happily agreed. It took one month (4 periods) to finish the poem. During that period the classroom was happened to be full-jammed.
One stanza & one full week to discuss among ourselves, aahaaaa , the moments were sweeter than honey.

Each word, each stanza is carved on my heart, Pl believe me.

I would lv to explain it (of course as per my understandings because the poem is so universal that each stanza of poem is relevant to different incidences of life)

kaarvaa.n guzar gayaa

swapn jhare phuul se, miit chubhe shuul se,
luT gaye singaar sabhi, baaG ke babuul se,
aur ham khaRe khaRe bahaar dekhte rahe
kaarvaa.n guzar gayaa, Gubaar dekhte rahe.

Dreams wilted like flowers, friends hurt like thorns
all embellishments were like autumn tree adorns

the passing of spring: we just stood and watched
dust was all we saw, when the caravan had passed.

niind bhii khuli na thii ke haaye dhuup Dhal gaii
paa.nv jab talak uThe ke zindagee phisal gayii
paat paat jhar gaye, ke shaaK shaaK jal gayii
chaah to nikal saki na par umar nikal gayii
par umar nikal gayii
geet ashk ban gaye, swapn ho dafan gaye
saath ke sabhii diye, dhuaa.n pahen pahen gaye
aur hum jhuke jhuke moR par ruke ruke
umr ke chaRhaav ka utaar dekhte rahe
kaarvaa.n guzar gayaa, Gubaar dekhte rahe.

before we had woken up, darkness held sway
before our feet could get a grip, life slipped away

every leaf fell from the branches, all branches were burnt
life came to en end, unfulfilled desires bearing the brunt

songs dissolved in tears and dreams got buried, after they broke
and light from lamps departed cloathed in smoke

and we just waited, bent and broken
for the flow of life to ebb, to slacken

dust was all we saw, when the caravan had passed.

kya shabaab tha ke phuul phuul pyaar kar uTha
kya kamaal tha ke dekh aainaa sihar uTha
us taraf zamiin aur aasmaa.n idhar uTha
thaam kar jigar uTha ke jo mila nazar uTha
ke jo milaa nazar uThaaa
ek din yahaa.n magar aisii kuchh hawaa chalii
luT gayii kalii kalir ke ghuT gayee galii galii
aur ham luTe luTe waqt se piTe piTe
saa.njh kii sharaab kaa Kumaar dekhte rahe
kaarvaa.n guzar gayaa, Gubaar dekhte rahe

such beauty! flowers fell in love amazed
such charm! even the mirror shivered totally dazed

be it earth, be it sky; every girl and every guy
in one direction they all gazed

everything just changed one day, buds were trampled
and roads strangled (I know this sounds silly-Asad)
what could we do (beaten by time,) near the edge... on the brink...
but nurse the hangover of last night's drink

Kamal kar diya aap ney, I am very happy to read your explanation, in fact I knew the meaning before but not completely, I learned a lot and may be will ask some terms regarding this song which are in Hindi(as my language is Urdu). But really very good poetry and superb explanation and sung by our beloved RAfi. I wish that I can discuss this one in front of you.

Thankyou very much for your appreciation, still I am not satisfied with my poor explanation, it needs some more dedication.

Please come out with your feelings,thoughts,meanings obout this poem.
[I am mentioning 'poem' not song because Rafi is like a smooth flood which doesn't give any time to react, hear the song and then forget about the explanation, because Raf's voice itself explains everything hence for his song, language is not a barrier.]

There are lots of things in it which deserves further discussions & further discussions & so on.. .

I too wish that I should discuss this one in front of you.
