Shyamal Mitra (the music director of Amanush, for my non-Bengali friends) and a glorious rendition in the early 60's.

Another beautiful song by the same artist. I'm not aware of any hindi version of this number.

Hemanta Mukherjee (Hemant Kumar) with his glorious voice in the late 60's. (Even at the risk of being lynched by a lot of my Bengali friends, I must admit that I like the hindi version, a shade better!)

A beautiful number ('duranta ghurnir') by Hemanta-babu in the late 50's. Once again great lyrics by Salil-babu. This song has a hindi version by Lata & Mukesh in the film 'Chhaya': 'dil se dil ki dor baandhe'.

Note how impressive the orchestral arrangement was, even in the 50's.

The hindi version is extremely popular. The bengali number is sung by a lesser known artist Jatileshwar Mukhopadhyay. This song was perhaps released a shade earlier than the hindi version.

A rare-ish bengali song by Arundhati Holme Chowdhury. I somehow feel that the bengali version loses nothing in comparision to the hindi version (made before this one). That's a huge compliment to Arundhati as the hindi version is just top class.

Hits-ji (and no-one else) has the rights to link this song with the hindi original.

One more. This one is sung by Sandhya Mukherjee. Goes a shade faster than the hindi version but dazzlingly & effortlessly rendered by this very talented singer.
