Good news--here is a rare song--possibly rare even to the many ardent Rafians of MAS.
Bad news--the song is in awful quality. So much crackle and noise and I do not seem to be able to do a thing about it!!!
Hopeful news--maybe someone else can

2. Regular genie--Unni maybe can cast his spell
3. The Master--the acclaimed Guruji who is rarely seen on this forum--maybe he can do the trick.

Allow me to posit a different perspective on song quality. The song you've uploaded has crackle and noise, but is actually in "good" quality. In my opinion, the voices of the singers themselves are clear in this upload, with "some distortion". The sharpness and timber are very much retained. The music is clouded, but trust me, this is not "bad quality" for an uncommon 1949 song.

Hitsji I am thrilled (actually I worked a little on that song--there was more noise than this--but I am sure Guruji will do magic for us). Well i share Humbleji's thoughts that if a song is rare and of a singer we like then quality is secondary. But good quality makes the joy greater.
A thought on the isuue. I sent a request to a collector for the song badal ghir aaye--then forgot abt it and ordered it from hamaracd. Now what a diff in quality. The one on tape from the collector has a bit of hiss and is not that sharp. Whereas the hcd one which i uled is perfect (hcd is not always that good--they are lazy often and in the same collection gave me a horrendous Punjabi track with fluctuating vol!!!) The point though is that obviously the original source would have been very much like what the collector gave me but wow what a transformation has taken place. If I could make all these old songs sound that way I wopuld be very happy. Hope to pick up more and more tips from out audio pundits here.

Sure as pointed out by humble Rafi-ji, we will not care for the quality for such rare songs. These songs of LEKH used to be played on Radio Ceylon and never on Vividh Bharati, probably I think they also didn't have. heard after 2 decades.

Priya, I have tried to correct the speed and did reduce slightly needle noise, but if we try to reduce more the needle noise, voice tends to get distorted. Anyway the quality of the song is quite OK as it has its sharpness and its not muddy as pointed out by Hits.

Thanks Mohdsaab--I did wonder if I ought to have speeded the playback rate (the one thing I am good at) but did not.
But maybe U ought to have waited for the original file as I did tweak abt with this one and may have done more harm than good as probably our experts will tell me when I ul the original!!

This cleaning business is intriguing. I really wish I could master it so I could ul better tracks instead of waiting for U all to dl and clean them.

Ya'll have done great in getting rid of the disturbances. My vote still goes to Priya's upload in the first post of this thread. At this level, it's personal preferences that matter. For tracks like these, presence of pin crackle is fine by me as long as the singers' voice themselves suffer little to no distortion. Actually, Mohd2004's track speed coupled with Priya's quality would be a winner.

Dhobinji oops Talkzji!!!! I use goldwave to speed up--very easy--also in CE sometimes with other effects media player refuses to play the resulting files!!! BBut if I resave the same files without any change in goldwave the silly player swallows them!!!
I am very scared that uling the shy version may give my friend a serious jolt. He/she may flee from the forum forever. I am very protective of the shy thing!!!

Ok here is the 'shy' version. I won a 'reluctant, do U think so, will it be ok, must U, Oh my God, but why, this is scary, now do not mention me' permission from the creator!!!
The only thing abt this file is in place of the noise we have a couple of sqeaks. Otherwise absolutely no needle scratch!!! Great work O shy one!!!!

I think it is the best of all the versions taht have been uploaded. No offence
to all the other efforts which are highly appreciated. I do agree that the slight
speed-up in one of the versions was really really good. Ideally, the clean-up
by Mr/Ms Shy combined with the speed-up would be ideal. However, I am happy
to have such a rare song. Par maangne me koi harz nahi, right?
