Hi friends,
Remember I had uled a song from Stage--jagmagati diwali ki raat aa gayi from Stage in my rare songs thread?
I succeeded in getting another song from Stage today. I was surprised right now to hear another song in the cassette with the same opening words jagmagati diwali ki raat in Lata's voice--the tune is different though.
The person who sent me the tape had also included the Asha version and written just one title on the cover and marked it as Asha and lata. Must confess was not paying that much attention as I was typing out something when I realised it was Lata's voice playing. The VN bk does not list a duet version so i presume it is Lata and chorus? I must confess have not rewound the tape to listen again--am very wary of tapes and till I get this on cd do not risk doing anything to it!!! I have a bad history with tapes. sad1.gif
Can someone check the Geet Kosh and confirm? Are there more Lata solos in the film? It would be strange for her to sing just one song with Asha doing all the rest.

The Geetkosh does have the song "Jagmagaati diwali ki raat aa gayi" as being
sung by Asha, Lata and chorus. It does not have an Asha solo version of this
song listed at all. But the version that you had uploaded did not have Lata's
voice in it.
Lata has 3 other songs in this film.
1. Kisi se pyaar karna .... muhabbat me haNsi do din ki (Lata)
2. Dil leke dil diya hai ehsaan kya kiya hai (Lata, Rafi) -- Fairly famous song
3. Sach kaha hai kisi ne bach ke chalna meri sarkaar (Lata, Sonik)

(I am guessing that the singer Sonik in #3 above is half of the Sonik Omi
music composer duo).

Thanks SB for the info--have to listen to the song again. But will have to play the whole tape again!!! I remember Lata's voice and chorus--possibly I missed the beginning of the song. The VN bk lists the Asha solo and no duet!!!! Anyways there are definitely 2 songs with slightly different tunes. the one with lata has more variation in the tune. Will listen to it and ul it as soon as possible in the relevant forum or we can have one of our polling sessions again. smile1.gif
Did not know Sonik also sang. Asha has some duets --11 to be precise--with Omi.
BTW I asked my friend and offhand he said bala jo jo re is Lata. He will hunt it out from his collection and listen again and confirm.

Ok listened to the song again. Definitely no Asha in the second version. Must be a case like the adalat song ja ja re which is listed as a duet in some places and as a solo by both singers in others. Probably VN has separated the songs--as both are above 3 mins, with diff tunes they ought to be!!! --while Geet Kosh has it as a duet. One would have to watch the film to see if they are one after the other.
The quality is so-so but if anyone wants can ul the Lata version in Lataji's forum.
