In view of the fact that this forum is led by by Nimi, I'm initiating this topic. I have just posted some of my favourite 'elder sister' numbers in the other forum & I want to be in the good books of my sister! After all it was she who introduced me to the world of the Kishore Kumar forum.
A dozen of my favourte gems from this dazzlingly versatile singer.
1. daiyya yeh main kahan aa phansi
2. ab ke baras bhejo
3. balma khuli hawaaen
4. baagh mein kali khili
5. in ankhon ki masti
6. phuley gondho nei (bengali non-film. the hindi version is the hugely rare 'phoolon ki zubaan')
7. jivalagaa! (marathi bhav geet)
8. sooni sooni saans ki sitar par (the finest of all raag 'jai jaiwanti' examples in hindi movies)
9. jaa re pawaniya piya ke des jaa (do boond paani)
10. naina hain pyasi mere (a tune tailor made for Geeta Dutt by her brother Kanu Roy but even she in her best form could not have sung the song in the way Asha-tai did.)
11. yeh jawaan jawaan dil ke mere armaan (room # 203. music by Salil-babu. This song is as dazzlingly difficult as 'daiyya yeh main'.)
12. haan mere gham (dil padosi hain)
Whew! Asha-tai has sung so many stunning Bengali numbers that I would have been hard-pressed to select a dozen of her Bengali songs. And not all of them are Pancham-da's tunes.
Regards-Archie.
