I have a clip of this old number--can anyone tell me who sings it and which film it is from?
Thoda sa dil lagakar dekh...
Nainon se muskurake dekh...
Mera na ban sake agar
Apna humein banake dekh...

I had never heard the song and the information that I had posted was from
the Geetkosh. After hearing the clip, I agree that this does not sound like
Shamshad. Shamshad has a thicker, harder sound in her voice. This is more
tinny. In fact, I would even venture that this was Mubarak Begum though I
don't think it is. There is one more female singer in this film called "Nirmala"
according to the Geetkosh. That other song is also a duet with Rafi
"Meri nigaah ne kya kaam laajawab kiya". I have never heard that one either.
Perhaps this duet is also by her.
Here is a list of all the songs:
1. PalTi are palTi kismat palTi (Asha Bhonsle)
2. Kuchh aaNkh mili kuchh paisa mila (Mohammad Rafi, Durrani)
3. ThhoDa sa dil lagaake dekh (Shamshad Begum ???, Mohammad Rafi)
4. Achha ji maaf kar do (Geeta Dutt, Mohammad Rafi)
5. Dil de Daala nazraana (Geeta Dutt)
6. Zara si baat ka huzoor (Asha Bhonsle)
7. Agar baabu dil hai kaabu (Asha Bhonsle, Mohammad Rafi)
8. Meri nigaab ne kya kaam laajawab kiya (Nirmala, Mohammad Rafi)

The only songs I have from the list above are the 2 Geeta Dutt songs.
After hearing this clip, now I really want to get a hold of this one as
well.

Thanks Priya for the clip, a nice soft song. Again an interesting test for ears.

I think the female voice is Shamshad Begum. Couldnt match with Gita Dutt, Sudha Malhotra or Nirmala Devi or Mina Kapur.
However, If I try to match this voice with her forties or early fifties songs of her' like Mai Bhanwar tu hai phool (MELA), Chod Babul ka Ghar, Bachpan ke din bhula na dena, I get lost.
Very true she had some soft type of songs, like the one composed by O.P. Nayyar in fifties like Pyar karle Babu..(Mangu) where her voice is bit different .
