I only managed to successfully upload for the first time a few minutes ago and was wondering what I could possibly upload in a forum which has continued to amaze me with its people and resources! As Jagjit Singh sang years ago - "ke mere paas siwa meher-o-wafa kuchh bhi nahi"....
In the early eighties he peformed in the city I was then residing in and here is "Aah ko chahiye" in live performance. While the ghazal itself is not "rare", you may find the track interesting with a little bit of Raga Lalit towards the end.. Also please do overlook the far from perfect quality of the recording.

Shaibaal, this was a wonderful one. Which album this track comes from? Could you upload some more from it? Thanks.

Anurag,
It is unpublished - I used dubious means to get this and hence the quality of recording is suspect and over the years had deteriorated even further before I could digitize it. There are a few tracks in good shape and if you like I can upload those. I tried "Sadma to hai" just now but the track is too big (about 25 minutes) and I will have to figure out how to break this into two or three. Meanwhile I am attaching a part of "hothon se chhoolo tum". It is a bit gimmicky (looking at it now) but full of nostalgia for me (I used to be a die hard fan in those days)..

Shaibaal,

winrar supports splitting files as discussed here:

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...003&#entry44003

We use this method to upload large files in raag-rang.

Please do upload those unpublished tracks. Thanks.

Anurag,
I certainly will. Meanwhile, here is another variation of the same "aakaash ka soonapan" - Jagjit sings a beautiful bandish is Raga Bihag - dekho sakhi hamari piyaki yehi reet. I would love to get a hold of this bandish sung by some Ustad in a pure classical format.

Anurag,
I could not split it - so (unfortunately) here is a slightly more deteriorated version of "Sadma to hai mujhe bhi" - really nice rendition. Enjoy.

Thanks, shaibaal. It'd be great if you can upload them at least in 128 kbps/44kHz; anything less and it starts sounding muddy. thumbs-up.gif

Anurag,
I got a friend to help me figure this out and finally managed to split the file. Here are the two parts of "Sadma to hai mujhe bhi" at 128 Kbps starting with part one.

"Kuchch hosh bhi hai, aye dasht-e-junoon" by Jagjit Singh. I don't know whether he ever recorded this ghazal formally for one of his numerous albums but it is a beautiful composition in a majestic raaga. Caution - inspite of my best efforts I could not get rid of the considerable "hiss".

Fantastic stuff, Shaibaal. bow.gif I don't think he ever recorded this ghazal for his albums.

I think BJ may be able to help us with removal of hiss. Would you, BJ or anyone who does this stuff often?

BTW, Shaibaal, do you have Jagjit singh's "Live in Pakistan" (a very old album)? I am on the lookout for this one since ages.

Anurag,
I am afraid not - I would love to get my hands on it though. I have a tape of "prehistoric" recordings probably done in a basement baithak. They did not have any repertoire of their own then and sang ghazals by Mehdi Hassan, Mallika Pokhraj, etc. I can upload a few from that collection - actually I did u/l one in SKS - "kab yaad mein tera saath nahi".

I try... trial and error, don't know how successful I have been. Check it out. Sometimes I lose more than the annoying hiss and at others replace it with something equally annoying! rolleyes.gif

Thanx a lot for sharing it!!!

Shaibaal,

I know exactly what you mean when you say that it is hard to come up with another Kucch Hosh Bhi Hai..

This is such a fantastic rendition with some powerful lyrics that hit you hard right where it matters.

Very nice upload; thank you and please do keep them coming. clap1.gif
