I was listening to a song of Lata, and found that the raag on which the master piece 'Man Mohana' was based on was Raag Jaijaivanti. I tried to get hold of any instrumental of this raag and it seems Vilayat Khan has played the raag. I am a noviece, does not know anything about the Indian classical, but I am longing to listen to this raag. I would be grateful if anyone can share this raag with me.

Aahat,
I do have some instrumental peices on Jaijaivanti - I have had some problems with uploading and give me a couple of days to straighten that out. Meanwhile, I am giving two links - the first is a russian site which has a downloadable Jaijaivanti by Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Rajan Parrikar's essay on Raga Des has a very good section on Jaijiavanti with a lot of excerpts - they are all vocal renditions though.

Shaibaal,
The russian site has some great music available but is extremely slow to download (0.5kbps is the best I could do with a T1 line). Is it always like that or is today an exception?

Bibhas,
I am afraid it does take a very long time although the quality is pretty good. Talking of Russian sites - here is another one although it has only Ravi Shankar's music. The site has changed a bit (I had difficulty relocating this page, what with not being able to read the language), but the selection is huge...
Cheers,

Even though Aahat-ji strated this thread with Raag Jaijaiwanti in mind, since the thread is titled "Vilayat Khan", I thought we could discuss his music here.

I read a nice article about Raag Bhankar by Ustad Vilayat Khan:
http://www.pathcom.com/~ericp/bhankararticle.html

I have never this listened to this raga but after reading the article, I am very keen on hearing it. If anyone has Vilayat Khan sahab's rendition, please upload.

Thumak Chalat (in my opinion) is based on Gara which has the same aroha-avaroha as Jaijaiwanti but a different 'pakad' or charecteristic phrease which identify the raag. Some popular songs in this raag are 'mohe panghat pe nandalal' & 'tere mere sapne ab ek rang hain'.

Three very beautiful specimens of Jaijaiwanti are Bade Ghulam Ali's chhota khayal 'binati ka kariye', Faiyyaz Khan's legendary 'more mandir...' and Gangubai Hangal's 'achal raho raja'.

Vilayat Khan's piece is brilliant. The LP record had a Rageshwari-piece on the flip side. Does anyone have it?

Regards-Archie.

WINRAR gives you the facility to split files so that you can upload a track in several files, each <15m. When all the files are downloaded, they automatically merge as one track.

If you have problems with it, I'd be happy to walk you through it, but that may not be necessary.

DEAR AHAT

Will you please mention the name details of whatever you are uploading? One can not make out of what do you mean by Mar_Nan_Pur13.part4 etc etc........

This will help all to decide whether they want to download it or not. Besides there would be a possibility of the same song getting downloaded again which one already has.

Thanks..

Well, Bhibhas asked for a few mp3 and I had u/l all those that were <15MB. For the rest I had put them together (that's what I meant when I said, 'Here we go with the rest, all in one shot.'). I was in a hurry to u/l as the n/w that I have is unreliable, put them together and just u/l. The filename just meant, Marwa, Nand and Purvi parts 1 & 3 (second was u/l already). Sorry for this but bad n/w makes it difficult at times. Especially that more than a few u/l cannot be done simultaneously. sad1.gif
