I remember reading on sks that Ameen Sayani had done an interview of Madam but it was not aired for some reason. Maybe this is it. How was the programme--we do not get FM in Cochin--at least we get a diff one. sad1.gif Do tell us abt it--if someone has recorded it please do ul it for us. It would be a real treasure.

Priyaji, two parts of the program on her were aired yesterday and day-before... no interview with anyone at all. In the first part he played songs from her pre-Partition repertoire, and yesterday from her Pakistani movies.
rom
Well, in fact there was a brief 'interview', a quote from Lataji where she said she used to idolize Madam.

Oh that's too bad--why don't they air the interview--it would be so wonderful for us fans. sad1.gif

Do you have the recordings of this programme Rom Ji?

Well, I remember songs from the first part, because I'd heard all of them before. There was a sort of retelling of her life, and Pran contributed a quote, saying he was her hero in Khandaan.
In the first part, songs I remember included Baithi Hoon Teri Yaad, Kya Mil Gaya Bhagwan, Aahen Na Bhari Shikwa Na Kiya, Mujhse Peheli Si Mohabbat, Jawan Hei Mohabbat, Aawaz De Kahan Hei...

And no Inaam sahab... I didn't record it. sad1.gif Perhaps next time I should. Red FM replays these programs, and I think the program on Madam has been aired before.

The songs in the second part were mostly from the post partition period.
The ones which I remember distinctly are:
sajaa hai misr (Egypt) ka bazaar dekho
aadhii raat kaa cha.Ndaa
terii yaad daa si.nkaa mainuu saa.De
dil naGmo.n se bhar jaata hai
tere benaa yoo.n gha.Diyaa.N biitii.n jaise sadiyaa.N biit gayii.N
is Khat ko merii aKhiri tehriir samajhanaa

Vibhendu ji, read it as 'laga hai misr ka bazaar dekho'. This song had an interesting story. It was releazed on the RPM of the film 'Tehzeeb' and became a soaring hit. However, later the government thought that it would be detrimental to their relations with Egypt, so in the film version it was changed to 'lagaa hai husn kaa baazaar dekho.' However, the records had already been sold in big numbers so nothing could be done about them.

Which song is this? It is difficult to make out, could you write a few lines/words more? Anyone, any guesses.
