Full Version: Asha's Marathi Songs

Some of Asha's most remarkable songs come from her native language Marathi. Many of her fans do not know this versatile side of Ashatai like 'Zhale Yuvati Mana' or Bhavageet like 'Tarun aahe ratra ajuni'.

Here is one of her finest efforts...for those of you who can appreciate songs in a language you may not follow. In this song from 'Sangeet Manaapman', she is simply awesome.

That sentence in the above post was a complete grammatic disaster. Anyway, another beautiful Marathi song from Asha to atone for that.

I hope you like these songs though you may not understand them. To me these are Asha's finest - and truly wanted to share these for those Asha fans who love to hear every note sung by this remarkable singer.

'Chandane Shimpit Jaashi' composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

Thanks so much Pinakji for starting this thread. I just LOVE Ashaji's Marathi songs esp her natyageet--the first time I heard one was during the Eternal Asha concert where she sang yuvati mana and shoor me vandile (sorry if I have written them wrong) Later I got the original of yuvati mana along with a few other songs like kathin kathin kathin kithi from hamaracd. Have many of her other classic film songs and bhavgeet but only what is on hamaracd--still lots more that I am looking for. Please continue uling some of her Marahi numbers esp the less easily found ones. I would make requests but since I have only heard what I have and not heard the rest where would I begin? But Ur efforts are greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Priya

PS if U have a good copy of kevha tari pahate can U please ul it? A friend uled it for me a long time back but it turned out to be by Padmaja Fenani. Then managed to get an online recording but not satisfied with it--it is not available on hamaracd. I adore that number despite not understanding much.

Hi Priyaji,

I am not sure I have too many rare ones. But below is some of what I have. I say some because I am coming to India in a weeks time and plan to lay my hands on many more. smile1.gif I am listing below the ones I have so I don't end up u/l ing what you already possess.

As regards 'Kevha Tari Pahate' I am not sure how good of a copy the attached one is. If it's not good, I know where you can get a good one. Its part of a 2 CD live concert called 'Nakshatranche Dene' and I think it's available on rediff. afaik, that's the only source for the song since she has not sung the original for the movie - it was sung by Fenani. The CD is amazing - at one point Asha, in good spirit, emulates the singing style of Ghulam Ali, Pakistani artists and Lata!

Here is what I have. I'll be happy to u/l these, but if you don't have a majority of these songs, let me know - I have another idea.

Natyasangeet -
1. Chandrika Hi Janu
2. De Mala Ge Chandrike
3. Jagi Ha Khas Vedyancha
4. Marma Bandhatali Thev
5. Parvashata Pash Daive
6. Ravi Me Ha Chandra
7. Shura Me Vandile
8. Vilopale Madhumilanat Yaa
9. Dhund Madhumati Raat Re

Bhavgeet -
1. Ritu Hirva
2. Fulale Re Kshan Maazhe
3. Ghan Rani
4. Mazhiya Manaa
5. Jhini Jhini Waje Been (all above from album 'Ritu Hirva')
5. Samayichya Shubra
6. Malmali Tarunya Maazhe
7. 'Nakshatranche Dene' album in same quality as attached.

Film -
1. Ek Zhoka (Chaukat Raja)
2. He Jeevan Sundar Ahe (Chaukat Raja)

Well when you are in India, I do have a request to make of you (sounds terribly
bold, but I hope you will take it as a fervent request from a sangeetbhakt). I
have been trying to get a hold of the song "BaaLa jo jo re" (the original one) for
almost 25 years. I saw the film on Bombay Doordarshan in 1981 when I was
living in Pune. I have never been able to find the song since then. And sadly,
I do not even recall if it is in the voice of Lata or Asha. I have people who
claim (very strongly I might add) one and the other.
Recently, on Zee Cinema, they had the movie on in the middle of the day. I
set my tape recorder and raced home from work to finally see the song that I
had wanted for close to 2 decades. As my rotten luck would have it there was
a movie made in the 80s with the same name and this was that version of the
film. Sigh !!!!

If you do find this song, I would really appreciate it if you could upload it to
HF (I am hoping it is in Asha's voice).

Thanx for the NaTya sangeet in the meantime. Asha truly excels in this genre.

pbhende
Hi Sangeetbhakt,

I will certainly try to procure this song. I am fairly positive I could get it at Alurkar's in Pune - yep that's where I live too. Your post reminded of this melodious song and the tune's playing in my head as I type but yeah, I can't remember if it was Asha or Lata. So hang in there - I'll be happy if I can get you what you have been hunting for so long.

And yes I'll remember not to look for that 80's movie. smile1.gif

Hello Priyaji,

Here is better quality "kevha tari pahate" at 128 kbps.

I have many more marathi songs of Ashaji. I will upload one by one as I am constrained by a slow dial-up connection

Pradeepji U can delete the posts with the wrong file so that members are not confused. But the first file show sthe same size as the last--ya I know the problems of uling/dling with dial up. sad1.gif
Many months back I had started a thread on Marathi songs but barring one or 2 members no one seemed to want anything but Hindi so stopped it--glad we now have a few who are keen on her Marathi songs and there is some sort of discussion going on. Even in the song arey kahan chali from Jaalsaaz in the stanza which Asha sings in Marathi U can immediately notice the ease at slipping into one's mother tongue.
Thanks a lot Pinakji and Pradeep ji for Kevha tari pahate!!!

When U say the original one do U mean Asha has resung this one?
I have a song jo jo gai angai gate bala mazha neej na--i suppose that is not what u are talking abt? A lovely number that one but sounds post 70s at least.
BTW what does jo jo mean in Marathi?

Here is what a google search gave me
http://www.ultraindia.com/movies/filmograp...%20BAL%20GEETE)

An album of baalgeete for Rs 59--no mention of tracks or singers sad1.gif

All other info is on some film with Sudhir Phadke's music. sad1.gif
