Hi friends,
Was listening to the song lambi joru badi museebat--was the controversy on who sang this ever cleared--is it Lata or asha. VN bk says Asha. I believe Geet Kosh says lata. When u listen to the song it could be either of them. Any definitive info?

Priya, I have also not heard this song. Its is quite possible that record version maybe different from the film version, as it was noted in case of Banware Nain song. As Asha-ji might have sung for record version and Lataji for the film version or could be vice versa.
Also www..says its from Film-Ek Thi Ladki, Music -Vinod.

This is strange!!! Sajjadbhai does not have a Rafi song?????
I got this from the predecessor of hf from the MAS forum. It is in very poor quality with a lot of hiss which i am sure someone can correct--but is a 4 mb file which I cannot ul--when I reduce the br it is sure to get even less clear Still will ul it tonight. Rafisaab sounds the same--the woman sounds more like Lata to me but the style is Ashaish though in 49 Lata too had not really developed her hallmark style. Very confusing esp with the hiss. :(Do not worry sangeetbhaktji--always a pleasure to share music just wish I had a broadband connection.

Mohdsaab which song in Banware Nain and what was the thing--I mean who did the record and who did the film and why? I only have the Rafi duet and the Rajkumari duet uled by U I think.
There is no other Asha song in ek Thi Ladki as per my info. This is listed in the VN bk as the first duet of Asha and Rafi. But the more I hear it the more it sounds like Lata. If there is an Asha version I want to lay my hands on it!!!

Ah U have a litmus test to check if it is Asha or Lata? With Asha and Geeta the test is the high pitch--very different--with lata and Asha more difficult esp in their old obscure numbers.
Very enjoyable song anyway--hope someone cleans it up for us.

Priya~G, i don't think the female is Asha! WHY? The voice is too sweet and virginy type like Lata.

Actually I think it is Asha, a very very young Asha whose voice had still not
deepened enough to distinguish it from Lata's thinner voice. The part that made
me think it was Asha was right at the end of her first part where she says "o mai
haar gayi" and there is a laTka in the voice which she used a lot with OPN later
on. Again, it is hard to be 100% certain, but I shall be content believing it is
Asha.
After all, as a wise man often likes to quote: "reality is just an illusion".

Yes exactly Sangeetbhaktji--that was the part that confused me. The low picthed notes--because Lata does not any bass in her voice. It sounds like Asha in arey main haar gayi but the rest sounds like lata--tho they did sound a lot like each other in the beginning. Another thing that confused me was the kind of confidence in the singing--Lata was experienced in 49--Asha was not. One eg I have is of 2 Punjabi songs I have--both rafi and Asha duets--one from posti--an old song and Asha does not have that kind of art of duet singing that was so perfect once she had sung for a few years--that sort of repartee and timing and ability to make it sound like 2 people really having a musical conversation--the other song sun mere mahi has the classic asha at her best in duet singing. This song reminds me of the lara lappa type where Lata did sing what were later songs of Asha's dept.
What do Unni (when he has time from cracking jokes and speculating on things he ought not to at his age) and Mohdsaab think abt it?
Would be nice to have everyone's views and reasons.

Sajjadbhai is there any other way U rate voices? There are ways U know--suprano, alto, bass etc. U can talk of Westernised voices and Indianised ones. Aiyyah!!! BTW just curious --how do u rate male voices?

Yep... cleaned, not with any particular attention to detail, because it wasn't cd-able anyways. Just got rid of the big time hiss and amplified it marginally.

Great thanks. BTW have any of U tried reconverting to mp3 and burning cds? I o so for mp3 discs and it works ok--never tried audio cds.

Noor Jehan - lots of miles - throughly used!
Lata - Pure as snow/good looking nazuk virgin(untouched)
Asha - Lots of miles/sexy but very experienced:-)
Shamshad begum - Sweet fat punjabi women/garam too:-)
G.Dutt - boring bongo lady who is singing her heart out but no one cares:-(

As for male singers:

Rafi - Flirty young fashionable good looking guy. (True Player)
Kishore - Mature handsome man with deep voice. (player too:-) but goes after aunties:-)
Manna Dey - Dance Master.
Hemant kumar - Saadhu or old bongo man:-)
Mukesh - Sad guy, who is not getting anything:-)

Unni is correct. This is a Rafi-Lata duet.

Thanks Priya for a rare song. This track has created a very interesting situation. The female voice for me sounds more of Ashaji not Lataji, maybe I am wrong. Lataji's voice was more matured as she did around 80 songs in 1948 and around 100 songs in 1949 and already hit the charts with block-busters like Ayega Anewala (MAHAL-1949), uthayeja unke sitam (ANDAZ-1949), Hawa me udta jaye (BARSAAT-1949) and so on. We have not heard much songs of Ashaji during late forties and the song in question from EK THI LADKI as per www.. is shown as released in 1949. IMOP, if we say its Lataji then this voice does not match with other tracks of the same film credited to Lataji, like " Laralappa laralappa , Ye shokh sitare, ghir ghir ke aye badarwa sajanwa na ja etc.
Also since this looks like a record version -78 RPM, it may be quite possible that Ashaji voice was used for this one and Lataji's voice was used for the film-version
Hence VN book should be OK here.
This can also be confirmed by obtaining the film version (VCD/DVD) of the same song.
Aslo we can post this question in RMIM and get views.

All my sources of information tell me that this is Lata's voice. Personally, when I listen to the song, I would guess it to be Asha's voice though. Looks like I'll have to ask my mule!

Sounds more like Ashaji than Lataji to me.
But if someone had asked me who it was without suggesting any name, I wouldn't have named either of them.
I have a tape of this movie in my hometown. Will look it up and find if the audio in that is any better.

Ayyo Sajjadbhai there are several songs which have several versions--as late as Rudali U have 2 versions of samay o dheere chalo--by Lata and Asha!!!
In Lekin someone recorded jhoothe naina bole and then Asha redid it--of course there the early recording was not retained.
Mohdsaab mentioned Bawre Nain tho he did not clarify the issue--then there is that film with hordes of songs sung by both Lataji and Meena Kapoor I think-some 6-7 songs with 2 versions!!!!!
No I can ul the joke. But let me finish dling my songs first.
