I went to a music store today and they were playing a new compilation with techno beats, the tune and lyrics seemed bit familiar, when I concentrated better, it turned out to be a remix of Noor Jehan's classic song- 'mera tain bin jiinaa muhaal ve, daachi waleya lae chal naal ve', the female was such horrible sounding and the music crap..... angry2.gif what have they made of such a wonderful number, I was so irritated that did not even look at the album properly but it seemed to have songs by many artists.

GRRR how awful. But when even a company like HMV enters the remix market what can one expect of anyone else. Only the fast bucks count--I wonder who these buyers of junk are--apart from discos who would really be tone deaf enough to listen to this stuff--but aparently there are such strange individuals abounding the land! sad1.gif

Same situation here in Pakistan! Even the leading music companies like Eagle, Sonic, and Maria are also doing this absurdity. Moreover almost every pop group of Pakistan is singing Madam Noor Jehan songs in there typically pop (and ugly) style. Ali Haider’s ‘Syyo ni mera maahi’ is a quick (and worst) example.

Seems like both men and women are competing there to destroy Madam's songs.

The worst is that modern technology allows mediocre singers to sound far better than they really are and they pull off these stunts whereas with the original singers they slogged to reach the position they achieved--the training, the time spent on each song to create a masterpiece--how easy for these soulless youngsters (they give us all a bad name) to cash in on all this. sad1.gif

And the interesting thing is that originals are becoming hard to find whereas the remixes are flooded into the enitre market. One of my friends got hold of remix version of 'chandani raatein' and got hooked to it and told me that it was one of the wonderful recent songs she had heard. She got shocked when I told her that it was in fact a remix of a half century old superhit song. When I made her hear the original Noor Jehan voice she obviously loved it million times more than that crap remix. But, the situation is really sad and some day the originals would surly vanish and only remixes will exist. cry.gif

Another irritating remix of a wonderful Noor Jehan song was of 'tu mila to mili aisi jannat mujhe, ab kisi aur jannat ki parvah nahi'- I heard this song in Tarannum, was this a non-film song or a film song?

HMV remixed this one last year along with some Indian songs and no acknowledgement to the original singers--there was a stupd video too. What with that being aired and the publicity of a universal album of Lata songs titled Mallika-e-tarannum Lata Mangeshkar I was hairpull.gif

At least if they want to give another great singer a title they should brain storm rather than copying a title so closely associated with someone else. However, Priya forgive the universal music guyz, remember that they brought out songs from Noor Jehan's Ghalib (1961) in excellent CD, great quality and nice cover pictures. It was a big relief, I always loved the songs but there was a lot of crackle in RPM recordings. I wonder how come they thought of bringing out Ghalib as a sole album and if they brought it out then why not try some more Noor Jehan numbers. tongue.gif

Bah I do not forgive them--each time I used to see that on TV khoon khaul uthta tha--esp bec the generation today is so ignorant--U and I live in a bygone era but most youngsters today do not know Asha sang chura liya, lata sang kaanta laga and so on. We know Madam is the Mallika but do they? Ok it is only a title and does not take away anything from either legend's greatness but still it angers me. Why do people complain abt piracy and no market for music when the music companies themselves have no sense of responsibility?
Haan ghalib was a wonderful release--one thing abt universal the sound quality is always good unlike HMV who often do not clean their tracks. Bu I feel the market for Noor Jehan is growing--when I first became her fan I could see nothing in the shops--but now slowly even in South India the odd album is appearing. Let us keep our fingers crossed.

Today I went to a Jagran where they were supposedly singing Punajbi bhajans and had copied many NJ song tunes...sun wanjali di mithari taan, sannoo neharwale pul te bulaake, ja ja ve taninuun and even the seductive 'duuron duuron ankhiyaan maare'... tongue.gif probably they didn't know it was a seductive mujra number.

But this seems to be the new trend esp with Punjabi songs but also Hindi bhajans--I have seen so many ads of T Series bhajan albums all with lyrics praising God but with tunes not just from popular old songs but even new dance sort of numbers. very odd indeed.
BTW the story that u relate abt chandni raatein happened to me too--I have a friend who thot it was an original and loved it--only my creepy friend refused to listen to the original version saying U and Ur old songs angry2.gif So many people nowadayd do not seem to look at the words or the tune and sadly enough even the singing--all they want is lots of instruments and beats and the modern flavour. cry.gif

hello pulkit

same happened to me some days back.i heard one bhajan based on tune "Sun Wanjli di mithari taan " as "sun teri wanjli di mithhi mithhi taan in praise of lord Krishna from a nearby temple.I was with my Bua that time and she said that this is a very beautiful bhajan melodious one ,but i said that this was from tune of 70's song she did not believe and insisted the other way that the bhajan has been copied ,it was only when i made her listen the original with date of release she understood and we could not control the laughter
indeed they have made a nice bhajan out of that
