To Noorjehanites

As our recent discussions seemed to admire and want more of Madam Noor Jehan's dialectical songs i.e. with special accents such as 'tora', 'mora'...etc. so here is a thread dedicated to it. It is wonderful how all of us identify themes and have created so many threads- I never imagined that we could have a thread by this name.

So, here goes the first song- Tan Topey Waaruun Main Man Topey Waarun..... simply amazing composition by Nisar Bazmi from the classic musical Nag Mani (1972)- each and every song from this is superb..... Jiyaa Tarpey Naina Barsen, Aaj Bhii Suuraj Doob Gayaa Hai, Saanwarey Mohsey Priit Nibhaanaa Rey, Man Mein Uthii, Pag Laagey Daasii Daras Kii Pyaasii.........

Someone told me that there is a Rajisthani or Maarwadi song of Madam in film Chaand Babu. And yes… very few people know that Madam has sung a ‘Pushto’ song too. Hai na mazey ki news

There was another unique song in Tarannum, music Nazar Husain-

Hum Naa Nikhat Hain Naa Gul Hain Jo Mahakate Jayen
Aag Ki Tarah Jidhar Javen Dahakate Jayen

I love that song!!! As much as the song and the singing I love Madam's gestures and expressions--even smiles she has so many kinds of smiles-a mixture of the sensuous and the childlike, very adorable. That's what makes Tarannum so special for me--the persona of Madam--some of the songs I really enjoy and keep going back to are woh meri bas mein aaya ho kabhi yaad nahi, chandni raatein, sone di tavetri, main te mera dilbar jani, most of the punjabi songs have a special magic.
This song i think she is in a blue sari looking very pretty.
BTW can someone explain the first line of the song for me.
I have this only on video, then an online recorded version. Does anyone have a good audio file of the song.

Ya Nikhat means fragrance.. it is also called Nakhat.. as rendered by Madam.

Inaam, truly speaking that is really a very good translation. Priya is right, a poet can never be wrong in translations. Many a times if I have to translate a song for someone I shudder with fear because I use pretty unpoetic and literal words which make the whole piece look crude. But then I tell myself ki dil se kiya gaya kaam kabhi bhi kharaab nahi ho sakta...isi tarah hum apne dil ko tasalli de lete hain

I have a version on audio tape but don't know how would it sound when made into an MP3 because all the songs of Tarannum II probably had the stereo beats but give some amount of noise when rerecorded. I also got a CD with this funny named encoder called 'monkey plus', they claim that if it is used there would be no loss of quality. I wonder if that is true, I'll try it soon and see ki bandar mein kitna dam hai....

hey you guys...i was just surfing the net for madame songs...and i found a persian? number by her..'Momin lari hardam'...its has the same tune as 'har lehza hain momin ki'..does any body know of this song?...and if they do...do they have it??...

my uncle just came bak from pakistan..i sent him with a list of cds to get and any concerts....unfortunatley he brought me atleast 5 'bazghasht' VCDs..that are all jhankar..he could not find any noor jehan concerts...everyone i ask say the same...so i implore anyone with a madame concert..on video..dvd..whatever..to please lemme know...cause im desperate to get my hands on em!...thanx ...bilal

Bilal, I guess 'Har Lahza Hai Momin' also had a Persian version. The one you heard is it the original version or the rerecorded one? Yeps, Jhankar is a major hassle in our life, Jis namurad ne jhankaar ijaad ki Kuda use sada jahannum mein rakhe . So many beautiful songs have been murdered by Jhankar....they sound so horrible and interestingly the original versions are becoming extinct and only jhankaar ones are available. But still do post a list of the songs, if we don't have any we can ask you to upload. After all something is better than nothing. P always greedy for Noor Jehan be it Jhankar.
And by asking about concerts tumne meri dukhti rag pe haath rakh diya...Guess what I did have a vidi many years ago lekin tab digitalization was not possible and I also didn't know how to keep the vidi properly. I have lost quite a few Noor Jehan rares in audio and video and there is no hope of recovering them.
But it was amazing to see Noor ji in a concert a great and a classic performer.....

Pulkit Madam's grand daughter lives in Ur city--implore her, fall at her feet, kidnap her, do anything it takes but get Ur hands on some videos!!!!!!
Persian song by Madam--gosh wouldn't it be lovely to get that--has she sung in any other foreign langs?--lata and Asha seem to have sung in several--Madam too must have?

Bilalji was the song available as an ra file to hear online? Then at least we can try recording it online--something is better than nothing!
The sangeetmahal site claimed to have NJ concert videos and lots of rare stuff when I emailed them but they did not seem to have any proper system of payment or listing and when I asked a friend in the US to call the number it did not work.

Har lahzaa hai momin kii naii aan naii shaan, is a nazm by Allama Iqbal. NJ sang
this nazm as well as its Pashto ( not Persion) translation on Radio Pakistan
Lahore in 1965 and years later on PTV. The Pashto translation was done by
Khush-hal Khan KhaTak. The Pashto version may be difficult to find but is by
no means rare/unavailable.

Yes! Urzang Khan Sahib is right. It is not a persian song but a Pushto version of 'Har lahza hai...'

I guess Inaam can be of some help here. Ek baar Inaam ke software mein bhi to aisi hi problem thi that when he used to upload a song we had an error message in extracting it.

I was facing that problum due to slow internet connection. I think bilal has a fast connect.. ye koi aur hi problum lagta hai.

O, then a nice test would be to encode the file and try yourself extracting it before you upload, i.e. give it a test. I think in Bilal's case there is some error while encoding the file.
