Aaapne theek farmaayaa, is jahaan main bas ek hi Noor Jehan thiin, unake jaisa na koi kabhi huaa aur na koi kabhi hoga. Lekin unake gaye hue 1935 se lekar 1938 tak ke gaane milane bahut mushkil (aur shayad namumkin) hain kyunki who RPMs par release nahiin hue the. Agar un films ke print aaj tak bache honge to woh gaane shayad mil saken. Is baare mein aap kya kahte hain, aap to khud purani films ke expert hain.

Does anyone knows WHY she has a scarf around her neck??? Was she covering up a scar from surgery????

Dear Inaam: previously I had asked you about a particulat photograph of Noor Jehan that I saw on the Tributed DVD. In fact you did upload this wiyth the Title "A lovely photograph". I agree with your comments completely and most times in reference to Malika-E-Tarannum, words seem to be inadeqaute to express the feelings you have about her and the the enchanting voice and music that she has put into the songs. Everytime I listen to Madam, I am deeply moved and her voice reaches the innermost depths of my heart.
Inaam, I can't thank you enough for the photographs you have shared with us all.

Dear Sajjad

I'm sure that we would still be in enigma after considering several possible answers. The purpose of scarf could not only have been a sar from surgery because of following reasons-

1. Noor Jehan used to wear a scarf at times earlier also, e.g. in Koel (1959) she wore a similar kind of scarf in one of her songs. Similarly, in recent times I found two young Pakistani actresses wearing such a scarf. It implies the possibility of the scarf being as somekind of a fashion statement.

2. Also, I have two pictures of Noor Jehan of 1990s which I cannot trace at the moment where she is not wearing this scarf. So, had it been an ugly scar she would never have dared to make even a single public appearance without the scarf.

3. Had it been a scar Noor Jehan would surly have done something about it.

4. Also, before 1990's when Noor Jehan wore the scarf occasionally, she used to wear exotic necklaces, but after 1990s she used to usually wear a single big diamond which used to shine a lot and there was little space for her necklaces close to the throat. So maybe as a compromise for those lovely necklaces she substituted the scarf.

5. Rather than a scar, there might have been a survical ailment.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. BTW, you really have a Sherlock Holmes kind of insticits......... I hope these hypothesis have helped lessen your enigma.

To my knowledge, There was no scar from surgery on her neck. From early 90s she used to wear a scarf around her neck because of roll down skin of her neck. (Sorry for my poor English mera matlab hai dhalki hoi skin ki wajha se) You can see in this picture what I am trying to say.

Well age does show on the neck esp for most women esp after the age of 50 or so. But apart from that Madam made it into a fashion statement as Pulkit mentioned with her scarves matching her sari exactly and the single solitaire glittering below. Most of her later Tarannum programmes seem to have this fashion, mostly with plain silk saris of different colours and matching scarf.

I just noticed that the picture itself says it is from Lakht-e-Jigar and not Intezar . At the bottom of the pic, it is written in Urdu "Lakht-e-Jigar".
