Yeh I know Umer, but I think it is not correct though I have not seen Lakht-e-Jigar (I have two songs of Lakht-e-Jigar on VHS), I guess the pic is from 'Intezar' it is the sequence of song 'Chhun Chhun Naachongi Gunn Gunn Gaoongi'.

Haan main shalwar kameez bhi pehanti hoon. Much easier to manage than sari. Though jeans are even more comfortable they are not appropriate for formal occasions na. I love ikkat handlooms especially.

U are such an ignoramus regarding clothes. Yeh to mard bhi pehante hain--kurte.

It is a kind of handloom famous in Orissa, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. U get beautiful saris--when done with a thread woven borden in Orissa U get the Sambhalpur saris. Gujarat mein isko Patola kehte hain. Andhra mein Pochumpalli. All three have some diff in procedure and design. Usually the oriya saris have a meaning in the designs of the pallu and so on. Auspicious designs and so on.

It is a very diff procedure--these are not prints but weaves. U get saris, kurta material, shalwar kameez material and so on.

I have just seen the movie. I believe this is one of the best films of Noor Jehan as an actress. She was looking very much pretty in the movie. The film has some very well picturized songs like ‘Tere bol ne meriyan ne bulliyan’ & ‘Vekheya howey ni kisse takkeya howay’.

I found this picture in the book 'Stars from Another Sky - The Bombay film world of the the 1940's' written by the Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto.

There is quite a long article written by him on Noor Jehan, I will either type it up or just scan in the pages ! The article was written around the 1950's before Intezar came out as he died in 1955. His writing style is quite crude and I'm not sure how accurate his accounts are - Inaam bhai will probably be able to give a better indication of his works - Saadat Hasan Manto was a friend of Shaukat Hussain Rizvi also, which may explain some his negative comments.

I like Manto's writing style! Manto was tried for vulgarity in different Pakistani courts, but the fact remains he is still one of the best Urdu writers sub-continent ever produced.

Manto was one of the best Urdu fiction writers. Basically he was a short story writer (Afsaana Navees) but he wrote some very good sketches of famous film personalities. He also wrote many scripts for films when he was in India (Suriya starrer Mirza Ghalib is one of them). He wrote a complete book on Noor Jehan, tittle of the book was ‘Noor-e-Jehan, Suroor-e-Jehan. This is a very famous book, and every one quote it when write on Noor Jehan. He was a close friend of Shukat Rizvi, as Jamal mentioned, It is not a negative book, it contains some details of Shukat-Noor Jehan romance and marriage, Manto was a eyewitness. I like this book.

Once someone asked Noor Jehan about Manto, she said ‘He was a good writer and bad human being’.

This picture was on the LP that was released for Anarkali. The film Naila was also on the same LP. I only have a small scanner so couldn't ever scan it in so thanks to Priya who found it on the web !!
