I know the attached file - 192 kbps 14m 15s is quite big, but for those interested in the subject, its a worthwhile download. Naushad Ali, MD of Shahjehan, speaks about Kundan Lal Saigal. Informative, funny yet sad - Naushad's 11 minutes speaking about his recording of Jab Dil He Toot Gaya and interaction with Saigal is very interesting to hear.

Faraaj Sahab - I had just read & heard about K L Saighl's tragic fate.....
But to listen it from Naushad himself was just heart breaking....

But as Naushad mentions "woh kabhi mar nahi sakta..." K L Saighl still rules the music world not only through his "Golden Voice" but as a Great Legacy in each and every Playback Singer Bollywood has seen till date.

Saigal's affliction and how his son - who to us is an unknown commodity - both succumbed to the same weakness...despite such a lovely voice. I've heard other interviews of Naushad before this and he has always been informative, interesting and humour. In this recording, to all these elements was added the tragedy of Saigal's ultimate fate....but it is equally true "woh kabhi mar nahin sakta.." magar kya bura hota agar wo burhape mein mara hota? Anyways, its an emotional subject.....but glad to know you appreciated it.

I didn't have Rehmat Pe Teri, Ghar Ye Tera Sada or Matwale Panese. The recordings of Matwale & Ghar Ye Tera are not really audible. With songs of that era, its sometimes a challenge getting good recordings.

For the other Non-Filmi you have (which I didn't d/l) please let me know if any has a poor recordings. I'd probably have a good one which I can upload for you.

By the way, I think Dil Se Teri Nigaah is indeed filmi. Per my record, its a Rai Chand Bhoral composition from Karwaan e Hayaat (1935). I upload another Karwaan e Hayaat song sung by Saigal Saab, Pahadi Sanyal and Ratan Bai. Nice song. Its mp3/192 kbps.

I do have two more audible versions of the same which I had copied from somebody but the audio quality is rather pathetic, with quite a bit of noise and clicks in them. The mp3 files are 320 kbps but that does not mean anything, the source recording must have been awful. I would also want to listen to a good quality version of these.

These two songs are not available on CD currently. Until release or upload by some private collector with the gramophone record, the two attached (admittedly low bitrate) mp3 files are the most decent available. Not only audible, they are quite decent recordings.

I have both these songs at 128 kbps in reasonable audio quality (no clicks that I can make out) - although the hiss of the gramophone record is there, the song is still clearly audible and doesn't have the echo that is there in low-res versions above. They are definitely NOT enhanced lowres versions. I don't remember the provenance of these recordings (I have had them for a couple of years at the least), but my comments say "Vol. 5" for both songs, which would indicate either a cassette or a CD as the source.

These must be CD. These two ghazals were issued on CD some time ago and the sound quality is certainly CDQ (the hiss is quite normal).

May I point out an error ?

The cosinger with Saigal in Main Man Ki Baat Bataaoon is Uma Shashi and not Uma Devi.

Uma Devi was an excellent singer (A well known song of her is Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon from the movie Dard) but also well known as comedieene Tun Tun.
