Sitara Kanpuri may be a largely unknown name today, but she was one of the famous singing stars of the '40s. Her 'Man Ki Jeet' numbers, led by the classic "Nagri meri kab tak yoon hi barbaad rahegi" or her 'Roti' evergreen composed by Anil Biswas, "Sajna saanjh bhayi aan milo ya na milo", remain connoisseurs' delights to this day. Hear this vintage Sitara number from 'Apradhi', composed by Sudhir Phadke whose name, several years later, became carved forever in the annals of Hindi film music with Lata's transcendental 'Bhabhi Ki Choodiyan' rendition, "Jyoti kalash chhalke":

I've recently been introduced to Hamara Forums and your posts are really the best thing about my wonderful experience so far. I downloaded old favourites from films like Aaram and heard them again after many years and relived my youth. Selectively, I downloaded some other songs that you had introduced with such obvious nostalgia. For me, Kehdo ke mohabbat from Maan was really a song I had never heard before (or heard about before!) which is going to be playing in my head for weeks.

Now, there are songs/artists I'm looking for and have really come up stumps. From my browsing on the web, I really see no evidence that those songs - which I've heard and enjoyed even exist! The three main categories I'm looking for are:

- Songs of the 40s film Man Ki Jeet. To quote just two wonderful examples, Nagri Meri Kab Tak and Pardesi Kyun Yaad Aata Hai.
- Khursheed Begum (or Bano). Examples would include songs like Ghata Ghanghor (Tansen), Panchi Bawra, Dil Ki Dharkan (Mumtaz Mahal), Nainon se naina mila ke (Beti), Pehle Jo Mohabbat Se (pardesi), Dil Lagane Mein Kuch Mazaa Hee Nahin (Babar) etc.
- Songs from the late 40's film Saqi. I think the MD was C.Ramchandra with classics like Aa Gayi Hai Ishq Pe Bahar and Ishq Mein Jo Kuch Na Hona Tha Wohi Honay Laga

Try as I might, I'm unable to locate any of these songs on mp3 and the audio recordings I had are long since worn out.
