Sitara Kanpuri may be a largely unknown name today, but she was one of the famous singing stars of the '40s. Her 'Man Ki Jeet' numbers, led by the classic "Nagri meri kab tak yoon hi barbaad rahegi" or her 'Roti' evergreen composed by Anil Biswas, "Sajna saanjh bhayi aan milo ya na milo", remain connoisseurs' delights to this day. Hear this vintage Sitara number from 'Apradhi', composed by Sudhir Phadke whose name, several years later, became carved forever in the annals of Hindi film music with Lata's transcendental 'Bhabhi Ki Choodiyan' rendition, "Jyoti kalash chhalke":
